NOBODY has anything with their name on it.
That's the thing. Putting names on things is illegal according to the NCAA. In their clouded eyes this would mean that someone is profiting from the player's names. In reality, we all know someone is profiting from the player's names. Put the names on and let the player's rightfully profit from the use of their names.

I think it would be a start.

Type in "A.J. Green jersey" on the official online University of Georgia retailer and you get 23 different product results.

It's plain as day that one man is making the Georgia No. 8 jersey a best-seller: the lanky wide receiver from Summerville, South Carolina. Are you a Georgia coed who feels the need for a pink version of your favorite wide receiver's jersey? You're in luck, you can snag one for just $55. A really hardcore fan who wants an exact replica jersey? You're in luck, you can buy one in black or red for the low, low price of $150. From jerseys for kids to Nike T-shirts, everyone, it would seem, is profiting off A.J. Green's jersey sales.

Except, you guessed it, A.J. Green.

Again, you need a "fair" system. So, because someone is the starting QB they are entitled to $5,000/month compared to the starting LG who doesn't sell any jerseys?

I agree with you that jersey sales are based upon that individual, but there isn't a fair system.

The only thing that could be fair is some type of profit sharing within the team, so say OSU's football program made X profit and then the players get a small percentage of X. However, again, that's not fair because OSU would be paying their players handsomely and schools like Indiana wouldn't be able to.

There will never be a system in place where players are paid, however, I'm not saying I agree with that, but I do understand it.

I agree with you that jersey sales are based upon that individual, but there isn't a fair system.
Life isn't fair and this isn't about being fair. Stars drive the economic engine and they should be compensated instead of pimped.

But life isn't fair. So they shouldn't get any compensation. They receive non-monetary compensation. That is what college is for.

The thing is, you can't associate college the same for all students. Most students go to college to get a degree and to learn. These big time athletes go to college because it's their minor league system to get to that next step.

All I see is Georgia #8 jerseys.

fwiw I don't think players should be paid. I'm old school...they are getting an education and I've seen first hand how players are "taken care of."

You play by the rules and if you are fortunate enough to have the talent to get to the NFL, THEN you get paid. If not....then thats fucking life. Get a job like the rest of us.

I'm tired of seeing people stick up for these dumbass kids when they fail to follow the rules.

Just because they choose to use it that way does not mean they should be paid. Besides, what % of college athletes turn pro? I would guess the majority DO NOT use college as a minor league system.

But those guys who are not using as a minor league system are not the one's getting the extra benefits.

Obviously it's a small percentage of players who could actually make the argument that they bring in revenue for the University.

What I see is a system that uses players to make huge sums of money and the players don't get their fair share.

BTW, I am not defending Green or anybody else who breaks the rules. Rules are rules until they are changed and ,IMO, these rules should be changed.

Fair enough, but Chris says Coach K must have been shakin in his boots thinking of having the fab 5 types coming to play at Duke. He still didnt address the fact that Duke DID try recruiting him. What I did get from his Tweet was He (Webber) never held any grudges against Jalen for making the comment.

It's not sad. I really don't get the issue regarding Duke and the comments made towards them. Duke is a prestigious and high academic University. Often times they don't recruit inner city kids because often times they do not have the necessary academics to be admitted. It's just the facts. Same thing happens at Stanford and Harvard.

I make my compay alot of money, should I be entitled to it? I get a paycheck and so do they, theirs is just in the form of free school, room and board, ext... like somebody already said, think of it as an internship.

didnt see it.....sure it will play again, is it worth watching? what is meant by 'changing the game' thugery? (is that a word? it is now.) do think jalen rose has game as an anilyst.......can't believe the old man howard is still playing, figures it's in miami (that team sucks) why didn't weber sign on with the show? I heard rome interview rose a week or so ago and just caught the tail end of the interview and heard that he didn't but didn't hear why.

What is the cost of tuition and room and board at a UM? Let's say 50k a year. UM gets $10 miillion on that investment and that's fair. I don't think so.

50k/year, which translates to receiving a degree for playing a game is fine by me.

When you factor in some of the other things that they get such as tutors any time they want, excellent medical care/facilities whenever they want, etc. I'm sure sure the value is well over 50k at most schools. If the athlete feels he can get a better deal doing something else, best of luck to him. No one is forced to accept a scholarship to play a game.

So, it's OK for the university to make money off of the players, but not ok for the players to make money off of their name.

The royalties paid to the players would not amount to very much money. My guess is they would receive 4% or 5% of the price. In the end the school would likely make more money off of jersey sales because names would be on them. It is a win-win for the player and the school.
