I was never a Duke fan. Coach K I can stand because he is a disciple of The General. When the michigan players were talking of Duke it wreaked of jealousy. It was quite pathetic. If you asked me my opinion of Duke prior to taht piece I woulda said I didnt like them much, but after hearing those remarks, I dont know, it kinda changed my opinion I guess. When someone shows outward jealousy and ignorance toward something else it usually pushes me to the other side so now I kinda side with Duke! and this is coming from a guy who my brother and hung a Laetnner dummy in effigy back in teh day!

I can see what they were saying. Duke was and always has been very white collar. Have you ever seen/heard of them having players with character issues while in school or a "thug" mentality? They viewed it as inner city vs. suburbs or something.

As far as the jealousy, Rose was simply being honest about how he felt at that age. And frankly, if I would've been in his shoes, I probably woulda felt the same. Also, when you're the up-and-comers at that age, you use whatever you can to pump yourself up more for the battles ahead and the Fab Five played that "us against the world" ard brilliantly amongst each other.
Burwell made a great point, it was a generational thing. I didn't catch any of the guys saying they still hated Duke, but when they were teenagers....they couldn't stand. I viewed Duke as preppy goody goody's back then who always won so I couldn't stand them. Now, being 20 years older, I have a ton of respect for Coach K and their program.
I like when Jalen said what he thought about Laettner but then followed that up by pointing out that he was wrong because Laettner had game.
Dude was just being honest and I respect that. I've always been a fan of Jalen's but even moreso after last night. Disappointed in Webber who was always my favorite.
Great talent, changed the culture, etc. but what I'll remember most is the brotherhood, the togetherness. Genuine IMO.

They hated Grant Hill because they felt he was an uncle tom, Laetner because they felt he was he was perceived as too perfect and pristine, the duke program because it wouldnt recruit a guy like him and such because of his background. Precisely why Fab Five didn't like them. Duke didn't recruit the kids from the hood. Only the perceived good kids, many of whom were white. If you know much about this time period, it was a time of rap and hip hop, and almost a small black rights movement period. These inner city kids were angry.
