Netflix works perfectly for us though. We watch about 4 movies per month and enjoy watching tv shows (you know they have every season of Top Gear online?). With our DVD que we have around 1 1/2 months for new releases anyway.

Yeah, Blockbuster's drop off at the store thing is probably nice if you still are anywhere near the 5 stores that still exist in Ohio.

Speedway has signed a contract with Blockbuster, so I would think you can return to the boxes they now have outside of there too perhaps?

The instant streaming is a bonus on top of the actual service though...
If you've been following the Netflix news, they will be eventually discontinuing the dvd service.

hoops23;693584 wrote:You make a post saying Netflix is a scam, yet you bring no real substantial proof/facts to back up your claim. This is entirely opinion based, and your opinion happens to be wrong.

Actually, I brought plenty of substantial proof/facts - I mentioned how their Instant selection sucks, and many on here have agreed (aside from the comments that their TV listing is actually pretty good).

Way to try to tell me "my opinion is wrong." huh?

How is it a scam? They don't advertise that you can watch the latest new release movies online.

Netflix WILL NOT discontinue DVD's until they get a full line of instant streaming available. If you've been following Netflix, you would know this.

Again, I think you need to read up on the definition of "scam" then come back.

Netflix is not a scam, but it serves no purpose for me. I get my movies and shows in other ways.

I watched "Paul" last night....not too bad, but man is the language harsh..lol

It cant be a scam, because they tell you everything up front. Now, it may seem like a shitty deal, but they arent trying to rip you off with falsifying their product, so it isnt a scam.

Yeah, I think what they are struggling with is how to change their model for new releases/popular titles without getting bent over. If they offer a premium category, the studios are going to want to list more/most of their titles there, which will hurt Netflix and their customers. Probably they same thing with offering a pay-per-view type deal for streaming the hottest recent releases.

The whole space is kind of screwed up right now. I was checking out Vudu the other day and seems to be similar. I didn't scan all the newest releases, but seems perhaps a bit lacking as well (compared to on-demand thru cable). Was interested in their specials for $1-$2 and it appears on par with Netflix freebies (for $8 a month).

Never thought I would see this from you. Granted I dont know what that movie is, haha.

Streaming doesnt do much for me as well but I signed up because I had the option for both. I will only watch tv shows through streaming and when the woman and I want to watch a movie
at a moment's notice. I do like being able to watch stuff on my phone too.

Do you get the cable discount through work? I dont know who does and doesnt on your side of things. I do watch a lot movies on there because of the discount.

If you are only interested in the most popular New Releases, the "Watch Instantly" Feature is not for you. However, if you are interested in TV shows, older movies, documentaries and foreign films, it's one hell of a deal.

For me it's a great deal, I have ~100 movies in my Instant Que and generally watch two a week. There are some great titles available, such as "On the Waterfront", "Sin Nombre", and 7 different Kubrick films.

If you decide you want to watch one specific new release movie, it probably won't be available on the Instant Vieiwing feature, but if you are just looking for something interesting to watch, there are tons of options available there...

Its really not that difficult of a concept to understand. I have had Netflix for years.

If a movie isn't available under "Watch Instantly" then I get the DVD sent. Its not that hard.

+1...i don't know what this scam is he's talking about. If they get rid of dvds in the mail obviously they'll have new releases under watch instantly

Don't have time to read through the thread, but my thoughts:

How is a service that lets you try for free to see if you like it, then cancel without a problem a scam? You sign up, look at the instant library, think "hey this sucks" and cancel.

Their streaming is lacking in the movie department for sure, it has gotten better and will continue to improve....It came in handy for us for watching every season of Lost last year, Cake boss, Pawn Stars, American Pickers, kiddie shows/movies for our daughter...If you are expecting to have every new release streaming in HD the day it comes out and for under $10 a month, you are nuts.

They can, and have, I'm sure. After doing so, they've apparently come to the conclusion that they make more doing it the way they do.

This is true. Unless something is grossly a bait-n-switch, it's not a "scam" under any legal definition.

It'll happen eventually, but for now, you're right.

"Scam" was a poor choice of words. I think what the OP really meant to say was "overrated" or "over hyped", which would be fair, albeit clearly an opinion others don't share.

I enjoy it. I watch what I can streaming...mostly TV shows, Standup Comedy, and an occassional movie and I get one movie out at a time. 11 or 12 dollars a month, I average 6-7 movies a month, plus the other stuff. I've been able to catch up on great shows that I missed the boat on originally, 30 Rock and Dexter especially.

He should post it in the "Overrated" thread, then. :D

I think tonight I'm gonna get a Chipotle steak salad fresh salsa, a Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold and watch Weeds season one via streaming on Netflix.

If you're going Great Lakes with steak, you gotta do the Edmund Fitzgerald. In my opinion, their best brew (outside of their seasonals: Blackout Stout, Christmas Ale, and Nosferatu). ;)
