Flipping through my google reader there was an article on lifehacker that Amazon launched a Netflix-like service today for members with a Prime membership. It is no additional cost on top of the $79 so if you have prime you have this streaming service. They don't have a ton of stuff on there yet but I am sure they'll be adding new stuff often. Just a heads up for those that have prime or have thought about getting it.

I wonder if it works for people who receive free Prime, like myself... I may have to look into this.

Unfortunately it does not. My wife and I are on a free student account right now. It's not worth it to upgrade at the moment but when our free account runs out we might re-up at the $79/year.

I currently have netflix...but this might be a reason to ditch it...free two day shipping on top of all those streaming movies and TV shows AND cheaper than Netflix...hmmm

Yeah. If you only do Netflix streaming and the amazon catalog is pretty similar it is definitely a better deal. Free two day shipping is awesome.

I don't have the free student one. I have the Amazon Mom/Dad one which I assume probably falls under the same rules at the Student one. I'll double check though.

Yeah, it's the same. It's only eligible if you paid the $79/year.

I would wait to see which one offers the most shows. Im guessing sooner than later it will be Amazon. The cheapest you are getting Netflix for the year is ~$110, Amazon is only $79 PLUS you get free two day shipping on orders from them. WIN!

And you only get whatever movies and TV shows they want to stream...BTW thats $96 a year and you don't get free 2 day shipping on about anything you can dream of.

I hope their library gets better soon. I was looking thru the TV Shows and there really isn't much I'm interested in at all. I found a few movies but they will really need to expand it I think before I do it.

THIS...I'm keeping Netflix and Hulu+ until they expand their TV shows and separate themselves with their movies. First place to stream new releases gets my business. Also compatibility with PS3 would be nice(Netlflix and Hulu both are already, amazon not)
