Tentative might only mean that New York is now forced to up the ante.

Plus, I heard this morning that the Knicks and Nets were both to meet with Anthony in LA over the All Star break. I find it hard to believe that this was already completed.

It doesnt really matter to me but can somebody explain how this isnt tampering?

Knicks better come up with something in a hurry...

Nets add Chris Paul in a year and they are right there

I agree. Paul, Carmelo and Lopez and then find two fillers and you have quite possibly the top starting 5 in the league.

nets will be shitty as hell if they do that deal. denver could be really good in about 2 years if a few of those picks pan out (and favors and harris step up their games like they seem to be capable of).

Denver should pull the trigger. This is an amazing deal for them.

The deal isnt dependent on Denver pulling the trigger. Melo would have to agree to sign an extension

If this deal goes down, don't be surprised if the Cavs end up with Troy Murphy's expiring contract and 1 or 2 of those first rounders for our TPE. If not Cleveland, I would expect someone to end up with Murphy and a draft pick or 2 so that Nuggets will avoid the luxury tax. The 4 1st rounders including the Nets pick in 2011 are:

2011 first round draft pick from L.A. Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers' own 2011 1st round pick to New Jersey (top 18 protected in 2011, top 18 protected in 2012, top 18 protected in 2013, top 18 protected in 2014, top 18 protected in 2015, top 18 protected in 2016 and unprotected in the 2017 Draft). [Houston - Los Angeles Lakers - New Jersey, 12/15/2010]

2012 first round draft pick from Golden State
Golden State's own 2012 1st round pick to New Jersey (top 7 protected in the 2012 Draft, top 7 protected in 2013, and top 6 protected in the 2014 Draft). However, if New Jersey has not yet received this first round pick by the 2014 draft, then New Jersey shall instead receive: (i) Golden State's own 2014 2nd round pick and (ii) Golden State's own 2016 2nd round pick. [Golden State - New Jersey, 7/22/2008 and amended 9/21/2009]

2012 first round draft pick from Houston

Houston's own 2012 1st round pick to New Jersey (top 14 protected in 2012, top 14 protected in 2013,, top 14 protected in 2014, top 14 protected in 2015 and top 14 protected in the 2016 Draft). If New Jersey does not receive a 1st round pick from Houston by the 2016 Draft, then Houston will convey their own 2017 2nd round pick and cash to New Jersey. [Houston - Los Angeles Lakers - New Jersey, 12/15/2010]

Depends on how much Melo likes money. Hes not going to get the type of money the Nets are offering with a new CBA next year

The Nets are shitty already! To paraphrase Braveheart: "You know what happens if they don't do it? Nothing."

The Nets need to make a play. I am sick of the Carmelo saga, and I won't be upset if this doesn't go down, but I would love to walk down the street to Atlantic Avenue in less than 2 years and see Carmelo and the Nets playing in my back yard.

Carmelo just told reporters he has NO scheduled meeting with the Nets this weekend. If he were to have a meeting he doesnt even know what he would say.

I still think LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Haslem and whoever is better than Paul, Melo and Lopez. Not to mention, Miami will be in much better position to improve their roster than the Nets would be giving up that many picks. Terrible deal for the Nets, however, it's what they have to do to land a player like this--and they need a player like this. So props to the Nets management for making a very tough decision. That's A LOT to let go of for a player who has proven to be one of the better players in the league but hasn't been able to propel some pretty good Nugget teams to that elite level.

4 first round picks? My god Denver is making out in this one. Yes Anthony is good, but unless NJ can sign a big time guy like Paul, they will still be in the bottom half of the east.
