Not sure if this has been posted or not, or if it's over in the wrestling forum (does this site even have a wrestling forum? eh who cares)
Personally, this sounds like a bunch of crap. I don't buy the religion excuse. It's not like he's beating his wife or raping someone -- he's just wrestling a girl that knowingly wants to be apart of the sport. Is that a sin??
Sounds like he doesn't want to risk losing...

Nope. Figured it could get some replies over here, too.

The crazy part is that the girl that he forfeited to may come back to face him in the consolation braket and he'd forfeit twice, losing any chance for a placement.

You obviously didn't read the article you posted if you think he was afraid to lose. He has ALWAYS refused to wrestle girls as a religious thing.
Now, to be quite honest for religious reasons I would always teach my boys to not be doing certain things to girls while out and about, that are perfectly legal on a wrestling mat.
Oddly enough, I do have a son who is an avid wrestler (he's 7) and I know I wouldn't tell him to not wrestle a girl however, but I can see where the religious aspect is a serious one.

I dont post there, but there are usually more people reading the wrestling forum than the serious business forum.
Right now there are 22 here and 40 in wrestling forum.

Obviously not wrestling but I faced a girl in HS when pitching in a JV game (actually threw a perfect game). She fouled a fastball off, which pissed me off that she made contact, so I threw her a a big slider up by her head which snapped back over the plate for strike three. She bailed out and hit the dirt thinking the pitch would hit her. My coach got pissed at me for throwing a girl a slider so I ran laps the next day. Don't know if I'd wrestle a girl in a competitive format though.

Actually, I read the article in the Dayton Daily News this morning and thought about posting it in here. And yeah, I saw that comment someone posted pointing that out. Anyone could argue he's ALWAYS been afraid to wrestle a girl then - not just now. This kid has his beliefs and is trying to prove them -- good for him, especially now when the implications are so high. But isn't this girl trying to prove something also? That maybe she can survive in this physical and violent sport, but this guy won't give her that chance?

If someone would have told me I had to wrestle a girl in high school, I know I would have grabbed her boobs.

And that thread has 8 replies as of 2am this morning and this thread already has 9 replies as of 15 minutes ago - what's your point?

Exactly! If you're gonna forfeit anyway might as well go all in.

Jerry Elliott on QFM said this morning he was probably afraid he'd get wood.

Its a slippery slope. Remember the whole "butt drag" incident in HS wrestling a few months ago? A kid facing sex charges against another dude. What if that move happened on a girl?

Dude is probably gay. Wrestling a girl is not a big deal. I wrestled 2 or 3 girls in high school. Just had to dominate them and move on.

I've never wrestled a girl, but I can pretty much bet that everyone that thinks something other than wrestling will be going on when a guy wrestles a girl probably never wrestled! I've seen several guys wrestle girls and the main objective has always been to beat them as quickly as possible and be done with it.
The impressive thing is that this girl has/had a record of 20-13, so the possibility of losing to this girl is there!

Throughout my career I never had to wrestle a girl, probably because I was an upper weight. If I did though, this is the same approach I would take. There is no chance I would take it easy on them. If they want to wrestle with boys/men then they know what to expect, and shouldn't be shocked when they get their assess handed to them.
Faith or not, this kid's decision not to wrestle makes me smh. In my opinion it was a cop out. Iowa is a pretty tough state when it comes to wrestling (not as good as Ohio), so I am sure the kid worked hard to make it that far, and he forfeits his first match at state because he was wrestling a girl? GTFO, he should have been excited he had such a nice draw. Where does it say in the religious bylaws (whatever you call them) that men are not allowed to compete with women in sanctioned events?

I'd be more impressed had he said he's just against chicks wrestling dudes to begin with. Fact is it just ain't right.

I don't believe his decision or the communications of it was predetermined with the intent of impressing others.

That has no bearing as to whether I'm impressed or not.
