Our 14-year old boxer died last evening. My 18-year old daughter found her laying in the grass outside the house. I'm meeting my 21 year old son within the hour to go bury her.
6 years ago when my marriage ended, she stayed with the ex on the 10+ acres. Since then, she hasn't been in my life much except to come over to my place from time to time when my daughter brought her.
Didn't know it was gonna affect me like this. I cant help it, but this really hurts. She was a great dog and was a big part of my kids lives... and mine too.
Another chapter in my life is over. It's hard turning this page...

...sorry to hear that apple. I've had to burry several pets (both cats and dogs) and it hurts a lot.

Had a dog once that died and we had to bury it. I was a kid. UPS truck hit it...so we nicknamed them United Puppy Slayers.

I feel for you, man. Something like this is never fun. With the dog's age, you had to know it was inevitable you'd be doing it someday, but that doesn't make it easier when that day eventually comes.

Thanks guys. I just got home.
I appreciate the things everyone has said, well, except for the obvious! Yes, we had her for a great many years, especially when you consider she was a boxer. It's funny that one of you mentioned it was great she waited until the weather was nice. Gotta kind of wonder if that wasn't her plan. We knew she was on her last leg but my son told me weeks ago it didn't matter and he'd dig her grave no matter what the weather.
Anyone who has lost a dog, especially one that has been a part of the family during the formative years of your kid's lives, knows that days like this are tough but they are bound to come.
My daughter has her dog tags hanging from the rearview mirror.
Thanks again.

Not sure if I'll get a new dog or not. I'd love to but only if I can provide it with a place to run.

It's not easy to do. Had to bury our Brit a few years ago. "Kit" was a great dog.
I have to be honest, though. I opened this thread to see what Society might have written. Wasn't disappointed.
