One of the top 5 movies of all time. Along with Sargent York.

I'd rank it as one of my all-time favorites.

Based (pretty accurately, with the exception of Red going from a white guy to Morgan Freeman) on a novella by Stephen King from Different Seasons, which also had "The Body" which became the movie Stand By Me.

I think Shawshank was much better movie than Gump. However, I think Shawshank is much more of a "guy movie" whereas Gump appealed to a broader audience (meaning the ever important female and young people demographics). What's more, this was during the run where Tom Hanks was the hottest actor in Hollywood (Philadelphia, A League of Their Own, Apollo 13, You Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle) and was not going to be stopped.

Love this movie. Watch it pretty often too.

Neat that a lot of the scenes were filmer around and in Mansfield and Ashland.

From what I've heard they're tearing down the "cell block," a chunk of the old Westinghouse factory where the prison scenes were filmed. Unfortunate

I think they already did a while ago. The following brochure is from 2008 and says the cell block is no longer there.

The location is still standing but they're beginning to tear down the Westinghouse buildings.

Love this movie (hence the signature). Wish I had the DVD of it still." Fear can hold you prisoner, hope can set you free."

When I was going to Ashland I would make my ATM usage coincide with my runs around town (like exercise run not grocery type run) so I could use the Huntington that it was filmed it. Sure there was a Huntington ATM in the student center but it wasn't part of the Shawshank set so...

This movie is one of my all-time favorite movies, and when Family Guy spoofed it, it became one of my all-time favorite episodes.

Definitely one of my all time favorites. I grew up in the Mansfield area so it has an extra special place in my heart.

Great acting, writing, direction, technical work...great everything.

Love the movie also.

Dated a girl once that had a cousin/uncle (I can't remember now, it was 6ish years ago) that was an extra in it. He was one of the guards that was present when Andy Dufresne was first bussed to Shawshank. Whoop-de-do, I know. But she was a pretty cool girl and was pretty excited to have someone that close to her in a movie like that.

Yes, they start up again in May.

I did the Hollywood tour, we were advised that was the best one.

I'd like to suggest some other things for you to see in the area...but there are none, lol. Too bad they don't give tours on Saturdays...you could go in July and then stop by the Ox Roast in Shiloh, OH for the best beef sammich of all time.

I went to Ashland and never knew this. I'm assuming you are talking about the one downtown (if it's fair to call it a downtown)?

I always found it funny that that Huntington was downtown and there was a second, and newer Huntington on Clermont about two miles away. Never made a lot of sense to me.

Perhaps the only better movie in my book is 'One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest', which is the greatest, and gets better every time you watch it -- you always pick up on something new.

'McMurphy' --- simply fantastic .......
