The scene with the guard above when he is arrested and is getting read his rights, my cousin was an extra in that scene. He is the state trooper to the right side of the guard! Loved this movie, just watched for the billionth time last night!

You’ll like that one, Heywood. It’s about a
jailbreak.
-Jailbreak? Maybe we ought to file that one under ‘Educational’ too.

My buddy and his dad got up at 3am in the morning so they could make it to Mansfield to play extras (prisoners) in the movie.

Red: [narrating] "I'd like to think that the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how the hell Andy Dufresne ever got the best of him. "

Red: [narrating] "Two things never happened again after that. The Sisters never laid a finger on Andy again... and Boggs never walked again. They transferred him to a minimum security hospital upstate. To my knowledge, he lived out the rest of his days drinking his food through a straw."

Easily, and how it lost to Forrest Gump blows my mind.

This movie has it all:
-Acting
-Writing
-Plot
-Score (music)
-Sub-Plots
-Mystery
-Action
-Suspense
-Lighting
-ETC
-Comedy

From someone who is a huge movie buff, it is one of very few movies that has just about everything you look for in a movie. I think Shawshank and Godfather (I and II) are the 2 (or 3) most complete and well put together movies ever made.

Gump or Shawshank....both excellent flicks. If on any given ten nights what would I select...probably Gump 6-7 times...and SR the other 3 or 4.

Gump just has that little extra thing to it.....just so much other stuff goin on

Forrest Gump has a great soundtrack to it, which might give it a slight edge to some people. However, Shawshank is the GOAT in my opinion.

And just when I didn't think I could love it anymore, I toured the Mansfield Reformatory and gained even more of an appreciation.

FG does have a great soundtrack, no doubt.

I think what we can all agree on........if those are the two choices for movies, and we had a blind, retarded midget with a lisp and was a democrat, picking out the movie I dont think anyone would really complain which one was selected.

prolly my favorite quote in the movie:

ANDY: ...or come to think of it, I suppose I could set it up for you. That would save you some money. I'll write down the forms you need, you can pick them up, and I'll prepare them for your signature... nearly free of charge... I'd only ask three beers apiece for my co-workers, if that seems fair. I think a man working outdoors feels more like a man if he can have a bottle of suds. That's only my opinion.
