I think also that Genoa is going to be alittle better than what most people have thought . I think
everyone thought after Simone Eli left that they were done for . I know its a long season and
anything can happen but there of to a good start with out her .

Lake 61 Elmwood 22. Lake without Kim Meyer and 2nd string in mid 3rd with JV's most of the 4th. Their defense was outstanding and Plummer was tough in the paint.

Is Elmwood that bad? They gave BG a game earlier in the week. Who scored for Lake with Meyer out?

I think this game is the result primarily of inexperience vs. experience, Size vs. less size and an inability to run a consistent offense against a tough defensive team. Eastwood will come along, but it will take some time. Patience will be necessary with the Eagles in the early season.
I agree, Eastwood will come along before the end of the year. As far as size goes, they had more than Genoa. Their posts were just a little slower and less athletic than the ones Genoa had. You are right about struggling against a good defense. It looked to me that they will need time to set up an offense if they are going to be successful. New coach, new system, will definately take some time. A long way from the run and pressure days of Gracyk though!!!

This early match-up should be a good one and should set the tone on who could win the league title.

Otsego has been playing some really good BB thus far, and Lake has looked good at times.

Predictions/comments?

Thursdays 12-10-09 games:
Genoa over Elmwood 48-31
Lake over Oak Harbor 57-33
Otsego over Gibsonburg
Woodmore over Eastwood

What does that put the standings at? Huge game this Tuesday between Otsego and Lake. I like Lake in this one, but very close.

Lake wins big over Otsego tonight. They played killer defense and made one three after another. Otsego looked like they quit after halftime...

Still too early to be overly confident but it seems that Lake has been answering some of the questions the doubters may have had. Inside play has been better than anticipated. Guard play has been strong so far. Defense is as strong as last year. Its a long grind but Lake is heading toward another SLL title so far.

Genoa (7-1) has had a great start to the year and i picked them 2nd in the league behind Lake (7-0).
In my opinion i dont think anyone in the SLL can touch Lake this year .

45-37 was the final.

Defensive battle with the score tied at 33 at end of Reg.

Lake was up 21-12 to end the first half, and then couldn't find the basket in the 2nd half. Lake's inside game dominated the OT.

Tough game played by two good teams.

As an outsider and a relatively unbiased source, it appears to me that the SLL this year has one very strong team in Lake, one other pretty decent team in Genoa and a a bunch of other teams playing for third or trying to avoid the basement. The old adage that says..."On any given night anyone can win" has probably never been closer to the truth than in the SLL Girl's Basketball League this season. The girls are really quite a bit like the boys SLL, except for the presence of Lake, and to a lesser degree, Genoa.

agreed but Otsego has a pretty decent team as well and Woodmore has improved. There is a little distance in my opinion between the bottom and the middle.

I wonder though if Lake has done enough with their ooc schedule to get them ready for the postseason. I know they did add Whitmer who they beat and who is DI but I dont think they have won yet, and play Clyde late in the year (not sure on how their program is). St. Wendelin usually has tough teams as well, but it seems like DIII will be no cakewalk this year and they're going to have to be playing good basketball late in the year

The match-up is coming Genoa @ Lake Friday. Both Teams have a game tomorrow, if they both take care of buisness, they will both be unbeaten in the league. Who does everyone like in this game?

Lake with no problems. Seriously, Genoa has little chance of beating Lake.

I take Lake by 15.

I can't wait for this game as the atmosphere will be electric but I don't see Genoa having enough offense to win this game. If TC shut us down what will Lake do? I don't have a good feeling about this

Genoa by 5.

Genoa's inside game will handle Lake.

No way. Genoa will have get the ball down the court first, and that is where Lake will win the battles. Lake's defense is too quick and swarming and Plummer has stepped up her inside game the last 2 weeks. Not going to predict a score, but I will pick Lake to win.

No matter who wins, this will be the girls game to see tonight. Both teams are well coached and play very hard. Good luck to both teams!
