Another example?

Teacher A is a 6th grade math teacher and makes $50k.
Teacher B is also a 6th grade math teacher and makes $50k.
Teacher B is also the Head Varsity Football coach for $10k, Varsity track coach for $8k, and Junior Class Advisor for $3k.

Who has the higher TEACHER salary?

I'm sure there was a time when all of those "extra" things were included in a teacher's salary, and it was probably through the unions that they got "separated" for extra pay.

As for your last comment: Not everywhere, and not even in every public sector job. I did plenty of things in my jobs in the private sector that weren't technically part of my job duties, but I did it to help out co-workers, the company or both. It was part of being a team player.

Union members don't know what that even means. If it doesn't begin with the letter "I" it's not worth worrying about.

Well, as long as the tests measure, you know, what we actually want them to know, then I think teaching to the test is a pretty good idea.

Nowhere in this bill does it say anything about more standardized testing or teaching to the test.

Maybe if the teachers stopped bitching and designed what they believe to be a fair way to evaluate performance we won't run into these problems.

Yeah, and if you think schools don't teach to the test already I don't believe you're a teacher or you don't teach in a grade that has a test. The entire sophomore year right now is basically OGT prep which is insane because that test is incredibly easy.

are you saying that people used to coach for free and that unions made them start paying for it....SMH dude i bet 99 percent of teachers do more outside of their scope of pay everyday than you do in a year..."plenty of things" gtfo...."team player" stop acting like private sector are a bunch of saints who work for free get off your high horse....no one was discussing what people do for free. if that was the discussion teachers would win everytime flat out...teachers are all about I? are you serious? no one believes that.

and dont act like private sector employees dont try to get paid as much as they can whenever they can. man this thread is so hypocritical...when did teachers start getting overpaid? ive been teaching 15 years and never heard a word about it. our district has not raised the pay more than cost of living since i started which translates into one percent raises every 4 years. i started in 97 it wasnt too much then...wasnt to much in 98 or 99 or 2000 or 01 02 03 04...so when was it? now we're a bunch of greedy people who gouge the public and make states go bankrupt? come on man! this is brand new player. fact is most people have felt we have been paid fairly and our pay hasnt significantly changed in many years. most people thank us and respect us and appreciate what we do. before i became a teacher thats how i felt about my teachers as do many people i know.
