I agree with everyone calling her a copycat from the 80's. Many of these pop starts dress and act as ridiculous as allowed, thus taking your focus away from their actual singing.

In her defense, she is a classsically trained pianist and plays it quite well.

I dunno man. She has been around for 4 years already, and is only getting bigger.

6 Top 5 songs including 2 #1 singles as well as a #6 song. I would bet a lot of money Born This Way becomes her 3rd #1 single.

Yeah, far more likely to end-up like Madonna than Cyndi Lauper. I don't mind her music, but I do think she is very talented and would like to see her step out of the bubble gum pop mold. Maybe she does, I don't know because I don't listen to her other stuff and lord knows you don't hear anything but crap on the radio these days.

I will say, her body looks better every time I see her :) Like Madonna, she also seems to move easily between skank/ugly and fairly hot.

the other funny thing is I have my doubts that she's truly bi - I'm not saying she doesn't actually muff dive, but she strikes me as the type to do it purely for the publicity. I don't think Madonna was really ever a lesbian, either, but I'm sure when she was coked up she clammed out. So I can see why the gay/lesbian community might be offended by her singing that song - she's just a freak, she's not gay or bi.

Don't kid yourself. She's a COMPLETE rip-off of Madonna.

She is a COMPLETE rip-off of Madonna. She needs to go away.

Why not rip off Madonna? Madonna was huge for 15+ years...all over the world.

Gaga gets it.

Express Yourself was a very big song and GREAT video and Born This Way will follow suit.

No, Gaga, doesn't get it. Gaga is like all these remade movies everyone is sick of. Remade, unoriginal junk. Sure, her music is different, but let's cut the bullshit and be your own unique act, for chrissakes.

The only reason she is huge is cuz the younger crowd doesn't know Madonna enough to see her copycat bullshit. The same crowd that makes Bieber out to be a god, whereas he is doing what many 16 year old boys in this world could do, they just don't have a big name (Usher)pushing them thru. I'm 32, Not too old to be too cranky, but young enough to have witnessed both Madonna's and Gaga's careers and seeing that she is a copycat.

There aren't many musical acts out there that can't be compared to someone else. That doesn't mean they aren't good. The Suburbs is a lot like a mix of Neil Young and Depeche Mode. Do you think it shouldn't have won best album?

This isn't rocket science...it's music, and that said.... there are "artists" and there are "entertainers". Most are some mix of both. GaGa may be a classically trained pianist, but I guarantee that she wouldn't be selling out arenas playing the piano. To 'make it' in the industry people have to pull money out of their wallets and buy your records or buy tickets to your concerts. It doesn't matter if 49 out of 50 in this country think you suck or don't care about your music or that you even exist. If a million people are willing to shell out the cash to see/hear you, then you are obviously doing something right. It doesn't matter if you think she is a copycat or talentless...it doesn't matter even if you are right.
Musicians have been 'dressing up' long before Madonna to 'entertain people' as part of their acts. GaGa won't be the last. It neither detracts or adds to her hit songs on the radio and on the dance floor.
Is she the best artist out there? Naw....not even close. But there are a lot worse.
But if you don't like GaGa, why don't you put up who you think is "better"? Really, if you want to talk 'artists', we could start with Josh Groban and work our way down.
In actuality, there are a lot of very talented artists and musicians laboring behind a less talented front man/woman. What are they missing?.... the ability to sell themselves and their music.

You're right, there are alot of acts that can be COMPARED to older acts. But, only Gaga can be deemed an utter freaking rip-off.

I don't get it. Can you give me the rundown of everything that she ripped-off Madonna?

Uhh, just watch Madonna and Gaga's vids, you'll see it. She's copied Vogue, the pointy bras, etc. And, she stirs up the exact same controversy's that Madonna always did.

Yeah, I was around for Madonna. And I've seen all of Gaga's. I get some of the similarities, but the "complete rip-off" characterization is just a little overboard in my opinion. Gaga will ever touch Madonna's legacy or have the same sustained success, but she's got a pretty good thing going on that is her own.

I'll say it one more time tusky...IT DOESN"T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!

Dwayne Johnson is not the greatest actor either.

Washington, Lincoln, Hamilton, Grant and Franklin say it all.

How many "truly" original artists are there anyway in the last 50 years? Half the songs on the radio sample stuff it seems like.

Gaga has pretty much ripped off Madonna's style and "panache" for lack of a better word. That may be a gross simplification, but shocking and outrageous has been done. And I think because of that, Gaga takes it even further to the point it's way over the top.

People don't think anything of it now, but the skin and sex in the performances was how Madonna shocked and outraged people. Like a Virgin and Papa Don't Preach were so much more than just shock value. Gaga does things like wear meat dresses.

I have to wonder what artists will do in the future to outdo what has been done in the past. I mean Madonna, David Bowie, Prince, Marilyn Manson, Ozzy, The Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop..... these folks have done some crazy stuff. Is Gaga going to have to do anal on stage to one up artists of the past and be considered outrageous?

This is what I'm saying, there wouldn't appear to be much originality left to exploit, we all know that isn't true as someone always emerges with a new twist on things. She isn't as original as she would like us to think but I doubt she cares, she's makin' bank.

To be fair, there's no guarantee of success imitating or copying someone. That in itself requires talent, maybe no as much on the creativity, but knowing what you can make work for you IS talent.

If you were good at your job, in fact one of the most successful in the world at your job, would you care if someone said "Well Bob Johnson did the same thing 20 years ago and you're just copying him."

You are all acting like being a multi-platinum artist all that is required is mimicking some pop stars from 20 years ago and BOOM, you're a millionaire. If she were really no more talented than your average theatre major or whatever than there would be a fuckload more people as successful as Lady Gaga. If you didn't watch her 60 Minutes interview you missed the reason why she does all the crazy shit that she does. She keeps all the attention on exactly what SHE wants the attention to be on, and all the attention OFF what she DOESN'T want it to be. Think about, when do you ever hear about who Lady Gaga is dating or anything of a personal nature? She keeps you talking about how she has a penis, or how her outfits are outrageous or how she's copying madonna's success etc etc etc.

Ponder this for a second.....has Lady Gaga ever been arrested? Has she ever had some crazy drunken incident at some hotel in Vegas? DUI? Controversies? She preaches a message of acceptance and love for those young people who feel like outcasts in society. I think she happens to be a pretty good role model for kids today despite whether you guys like her music or think she's a flash in the pan.

I saw the 60 minutes piece, did she not admit to drug use in the past and currently smokes the ganja and drinks plenty of whiskey when she's writing? What she does and how she does it I have no issue with, but let's be honest, I'm going to be drawing the line on the whole role model thing. Like anything else there are good things to be taken from her "message", stay focused on those and most don't have issue, start espousing illegal activity as role model worthy and things head south in a hurry.

Kid Cudi is the most original stuff out there. The beats and style he raps with is so different it's unbelieveable.

I do think Lady Gaga is very good though, but not original. Her sound is nothing different...however she just makes so many different hits it's unreal. Still we need rock to make a comeback because pop music is just awful live
