Why not just use a Wordpress theme paired with some hosting?

You guys and your web talk...

I am not familiar with Wordpress. I am not familiar with any web design product. Nor do I want it to look like it was designed on Microsoft Word.

If you take a look at many sports websites, many powered by Demosphere or SIDHelp, or something like that...it's very similar to what I'd like.

Let me see if I can dig up something Wordpress related. Wordpress pretty much has a theme out there for just about anything anymore. I'll keep you posted.

I really am inexperienced to this area, but really would like to get involved in something. I'll end up taking some classes on it eventually.

Basically, it's a good design along with text and pictures. The calendar and stats is pretty basic, it's just typed stats included. Maybe attach some .pdf files or something. It is pretty basic. It's probably little to no flash. Little to no animation.

If you want to edit your site content at all without digging into the code, then you need a CMS. Wordpress is a CMS. The 2 you mentioned are probably CMSs.

Oh...well...then, I'll have to figure it out. I'll also figure out how this person may (or may not) design/develop the site.
