sorry, this thread was made to bash cavs fans. in my opinion, it belongs in the basement. if people like society(i know he has a history) gets an infraction for saying somebody gets roid rage easily, i dont see how that is any worse than saying somebody is too poor to buy tickets when a team is good. have a good day

Apples to Oranges....look at the difference between the owners. There are still a ton of Indians fans, but they're not going to financially support an owner that has no intention or will to field a competitive team.

I'm pretty sure all the bandwagoners are gone after LeBron leaving and the streak happening. All that really remains are the true Cavs fans who are still filling up the Q.

I assume the statement in bold was directed at me? I didn't say he was too poor to buy tickets. He said he wasn't able to afford tickets before LBJ was drafted because he was a student. I don't know him or his financial situation now or 8 years ago.

My point had nothing to do with financial situation, but you made it that. My point is that a boy who's 10 years old couldn't buy a Cavs ticket in 2002, but he can now since he would be 19 and likely have some form of income.

That was my point in saying there's a new generation of fans who were brought up as Cavs fans. Don't forget that when the Cavs moved from Richfield to downtown their fanbase in terms of who attends the games changed. The Cavs became more reliant on people who live around the downtown area and less on people from say Akron, Youngstown, etc...who may have been more inclined to go to games when they were at the closer Coliseum. Not being good those first 8 or so years didn't help sell that to a market that was heavily investing in Indians tickets and those first few seasons of the new Browns. There's more to the attendance situation for the Cavs than LeBron James and it's simply ill-informed to determine that there weren't changes to the franchise, the arena, the overall presentation of the games.

Karen laughed off this point because she doesn't understand the makings of your typical NBA crowd. You have to understand that the NBA is different in the sense than the NFL or MLB. There are only 20,000 seats and even in the nosebleeds they are going to be more expensive. Because of this, you have a lot of businesses, wealthy people, etc. buying seats and they care about more than just the actual basketball being played. The overall entertainment presentation plays a part and that aspect has greatly improved since Gilbert took over the team. These are some reasons why I don't think that attendance levels will drop to the pre-2003 levels and they're a little more complex than just one player.

Bandwagoners are bandwagoners in any and every sport. You're crazy if you don't think there's going to be a huge drop in attendance for Cavs games next year.

Also I didn't say they would drop to the pre LeBron numbers. You would be crazy to think that they will continue to sell out games if the on the court product is the same as it is this year. I posted the pre LeBron attendance numbers because they were the worst team in the league that year and the attendance coincided with it.

There will be a drop, but I don't think it'll be to the 11,000 mark that was there in 2002. They'll drop a few thousand while they rebuild, and as they get better and establish a young (hopefully exciting) core after a few drafts, the Q will be back to filled. Season tickets only make up a portion of the total attendance, this has already been discussed. Also, not all of those season ticket holders won't renew next season. Hell there are people that have had Cavs season tickets for years including before LeBron (even though some people seem to think basketball in Cleveland started in 2003). Not to mention Gilbert has already stated that ticket prices will go down next season, this will help offset some of the losses.

As for how the tickets are being used, no one is forcing anyone to use the tickets.
