IC was "asked" if they wanted to opt-out for the remaining game on their contract... Since then some things or players should I say have popped up in Steubenville and given the valley a bad taste in their mouth when it comes to Big Red... Thats why you can't find a local team to play you. Quit taking area teams players and see if that changes. Also o not say that your willing to play any of them if you are asking them to terminate a remaining contract. If SHS put a couple local teams on their schedule this year it might be a better game than you think.

I may not be an 'insider' when it comes to Big Red (and certainly not IC), your statement still requires IC to decide to stop playing them. Maybe because it was a blowout every year and IC showed no signs of improving. The gate was still good. And depending on the year, IC was worth some harbin points.

But, again, IC can 'play up' to Big Red and get commended (and the fact they decided to go ahead and end it, per your post) is overlooked. Meanwhile, in your fantasy land, Big Red is required to play up to every imaginable opponent that would beat the snot out of us more often than not otherwise it just proves we're chicken. /sarcasm

In the end. The arguments will never stop. If Big Red played Elder, StX, Iggy, Glenville, Mooney, Ursuline, Don Bosco Prep, Concord DeLaSalle, STA out of Florida and Edison, we'd have idiots arguing we're playing a cupcake schedule because Edison is on the docket.

It's tiring. We prove the detractors wrong, and they simply adjust their argument to still favor them.

What I would add to this is this: If I were a student/athlete and lived in the surrounding tri-state area, where would I like to attend school? Let's see...If i were in the band, I might choose Creek(great band) or big red. If I was catholic, I would dread going to Central and playing in that quartet with 30 flag girls.

If I were a swimmer, I would love to attend big red, great facilities.

If I were a football player, I would hate to be in Toronto. Barely enough kids to field a team. IC, you don't even hire or pay "THE BEST" to coach your players to be the best. So hows that work...why would I want to play for a subpar coaching staff with subpar facilities and a HS using trailers for class rooms and a Bowflex for their weight training program. Choice: The Red.

Baseball...Edison and a couple others. But with the way the surrounding school districts are running in the RED and closing schools. I think I would look for a school that is building towards the future...So Edison is out. Creek (see above facilities/trailer comment) big red has one of the better coaches in the area in Fred Heatherington and a good program and a indoor facility to train year round. Choice: The Red.

Just how many billboards do you see for the surrounding school districts?.

In the end, why would I want my children to attend a subpar school system that has a history of not passing levies for improvements. It's up to the parents to make the final choice where THEIR kids will attend school. And it's the job of Steubenville City Schools to make sure that choice is an easy one......The Mighty, Mighty Big Red. Ask yourself this...why are some surrounding school alumni making SCS their choice. Maybe it's athletics, academics, facilities, employment or something different all together....Success Breads Success.

But here's some advice: stop whining about why they're leaving and give them reasons to stay. Pride only works when you show them it's worth fighting for. Other wise SOS/Creek and "some" teams in the Buckcry 8 it's just......a Trail of Tears.

Want a response to all the great things you have? WHO CARES... Your training facilities and genetic research program along with your open enrollment players forget a few things... Since your weight room was built, how has Big Red done athletically? For some reason they seem to have gone downhill in football, heck they couldn't even beat an Ohio team this past year... But you have the best stuff so we should brag about everything we do... lol You could have had the Green Bay Packers training facility this past year and it wouldn't have made a lick of difference in the way your season ended... What even a bit more sad is that Steubenville has 300+ OE students and they are still as small as they are... sonofsam, 300+ OE students over 12 grades still works out to less than 30 students per grade. It's no secret that Steubenville (and every surrounding town, actually) is a dwindling area. Our school buildings stay the same size so it only makes sense to offer OE to these schools to anyone disenfranchised with their current school system.

As for your little barb about keeping jobs, I guess you don't have the best teachers and educators that keep your students from fleeing in horror at what comes to mind as a mediocre educational experience.

You guys act like you OWN these kids and they have to attend whatever school you say is best for them.When you start paying for the food on their table and the roof that the parents put over their head then you can dictate what school they attend but until then I think their parents have a right to decide that.

Honestly, if you think kids haven't left Edison, IC, etc because of the problems with those districts, then you're also naive. "In horror" may be a bit strong, but when you have other options, a sinking ship is not usually the favored choice.

And the same has happen at Big Red as well. As for the "sinking ship" comment, what do you mean by that? Academically (because we have very good test scores) or athletically? Im guessing you mean athletically because its the only thing Big Red can as you say "gloat" about, but what about ALL sports? Sports do go beyond football and honestly, I'm sorry to inform you but Big Red is mediocre at best when it comes to "other" sports. Not sure where that sinking ship comment is rational?

Personally if your loyalty is in question then the school/team is better off without you. I do not lay claim to any kids other than the one I provide for.

I was not trying to say it was you but everyone that wants to complain about kids deciding to go to a different school because of academics,athletics or maybe because they have other reasons that are personal.I just think that a child should be able to choose where he attends school regardless of where he lives,we have enough people dictating what we can do in our lives thanks to our government.The only thing the schools can do is try and offer the best high school experience that a child could have and hope it is good enough for them to want to attend their school.I don't have any issues with you as I do agree with some of your post.

Personally I could care less what school a kid wants to attend... If a kid leaves IC for Big Red then so be it, Chances are their heart is not in the correct place or they would have never wanted to transfer. However, I do have an issue with a student who lives 30+ miles from the school, crosses 3 school districts to go to that school, and that student just so happens to be a very good athlete at a sport in which the school they are transferring to excels in. On top of that, the fact that a school is pulling in students who excel in this sport year after year without any scrutiny from a governing system. Even worse than that, the "fans" of this school sit there and brag about who transferred to their school, openly and actively put the word out on public message boards for all area football players to transfer to their school all while putting down all the other schools, teachers, facilities, coaches, and players in their surrounding area. THAT strikes a nerve with me... We get it, you are good at football, you have a great coach, great facilities, and a great past... Its almost like they expect everyone who is NOT a fan of their school to become one of them simply because they feel the need to be praised for everything they have accomplished. I'm sorry, but I do not bow down to people whos minds have escaped reality, and I refuse to ditch my hearts decision and root for another team just because fans of that team say so and they absorb all the area talent... It absolutely arsenine.

This kid loves football, he just wants to be back at his former school which he loves. One year passes and the kids parent sends him back to the school he never wanted to leave... He is not a superstar, just knows his true colors... The state steps in and tells this student he has to sit out a year... What seems wrong with this picture?!?!?!?!?!?!

Yes I did transfer and it was from Private School to Public where I started school to begin with and never wanted to leave... So I guess I am a kettle then right? My Mom made the decision to go to Private School, not me... If I had J.E. power I could have said where I wanted to go and it would have been done right? Sorry, If I had the choice Of Big Red or continue in the Private School I never wanted to attend, I would have suffered in Private School rather than EVER walk through Big Red's doors as a student...

I still think a family should be able to send their child to any school they want. Should they have the same rule in college sports and make the kids go to the college in the same state that they live in?The kid from creek transfered because of personal reasons and not sports and because of certian circumstances the parents decided that going back to his old school was better for him and sports had nothing to do with that situation,so please be honest when posting a story.Should that child have to sit out a year because he transfered back to his old school,My opinion is NO he should not have to sit out a year and the state should understand the situation and make an exemption for this child.I really don't care who goes to what school and on friday nights I root for both schools involved in this conversation and to be honest I just enjoy watching or listening to a good high school football game every friday and saturday night during the fall.
