From First Take:

Lakers and Celtics all time roster vs. the rest of the NBA's all time roster.

Make your rosters, compare, who wins?

Karl Malone count as a laker or as a Jazz? Wheres shaq fit in?

edit: thought about it for a second and realized how dumb this question is. Its the rest of the NBA not even close. Only BSPN would come up with idiocy like this. I bet the next question was the yankees/sox roster vs rest of MLB. SMH.

If you were forced to play 5 on 5 with no bench, it would probably be close. Between the franchises they probably have 6 or 7 of the top 10 players ever between Wilt, Russell, Bird, Magic, Shaq (if you decide to include him), Kareem, Kobe, Baylor, and West. If you had full rosters it probably wouldn't be as close. Granted, there's that whole "how would the old time players fare against the freak athletes of today" argument, but going by how the players performed in their respective eras, I'd say it would be close.

It would be close if you went with a whole roster IMO. If it was 5 on 5, anyone who says it wouldn't be close is a moron.

Lakers/Celtics:

Starters:
PG- Magic
SG- Kobe
SF- Bird
PF- Garnett
C- Shaq

Bench:
Kareem
West
Russell
Pierce
Bob Cousy
Havlicek
McHale

Rest of the NBA:

Starters:
PG: Stockton
SG: Jordan
SF: LeBron
PF: Malone
C: Wilt

Bench:
Duncan
Hakeem
Kidd
Big O
Isiah
Barkley
Pippen

I'd say that would be pretty close. Both teams are obviously stacked.

And 5 on 5, scrap the benches, there is no argument that you could make to make that look like it wouldn't be close.

Kareem can't start and come off the bench and the fact that there isn't room for McHale ,Worthy ,Garnett,Parrish, Dennis Johnson, Baylor, Gasol and Rondo, Sam Jones,Cowens,Seigfreid,KC Jones, JoJo White and others tells you all you need to know on who would win.

Yeah, I edited it, in fact it's edited in the quoted part of your post.

The list of names left off of the rest of the NBA list is impressive too. I'm not sure it's as cut and dry as you think it is either--but I understand you have some bias.

Can't believe that I forgot about Wilt freakin Chamberlain. The list of centers for LA/Boston would dominate the rest of the NBA. It would be no contest.

I'm gonna venture to say Dwight Howard can guard any center in NBA history so kinda a wash in my mind.

Your kidding right?
How does Howard do against an old Shaq?
How did Howard do against the Lakers "soft" bigs in the Finals?
Wilt,Kareem,Russell and Shaq in their primes would abuse "crybaby" Howard.

MagicJohnson Earvin Magic Johnson

@RealSkipBayless, you're wrong! The greatest Lakers & Celtics players of all time would beat ANY combination of NBA’s greatest players!

I'll side with Magic on this one.

Dwight couldnt handle the 6'9 (6'10 if u wanna be generous) and wiry Russell? really? 220 is like the frame of a 2/ small 3

And i think to qualify to be on the lakers/celtics all time roster...you should of had to play a good portion of your career there, not a few years during the end of your career while ring chasing(not saying this about anyone in particular)

As much as I want to say the Lakers/Celtics would dominate, the "rest" has a man by the name of Michael Jordan.

ANY team with Michael Jordan in his prime has a chance to beat ANY team. I don't care who is on the opposing roster.

I know this won't be popular here, but I agree about Jordan--scary part his he would have LeBron James as his Pippen and Stockton running the point. Nasty.

Using your starters,he is who has the advantage:

PG-Lakers/Celtics
SG-NBA
SF-Lakers/Celtics
PF-Push
C-Lakers/Celtics

Lakers/Celtics win

YOU'RE kidding right???

No one in the history of the NBA has had the size and athleticism that Dwight does. He can guard any big in NBA history.

"How did Howard do against the "soft bigs" in the finals?"......I wasn't aware that Dwight played all 48 minutes, and guarded both Gasol and Bynum at the same time when they were on the floor at the same time. Come on dude.

I will. Shaq doesn't belong on the Lakers/Celtics side. He spent 45% of his career there. Sorry.

I think that's the kicker. If the NBA gets Shaq, they would blow up(20+ points) the L/C team. Shaq is arguably the greatest center of all time, Jordan = best SG of all time, Lebron = best SF of all time. Some even argue that Duncan is the greatest PF of all time.

What does the L/C have? Magic? LOL This is just hilarious circle jerking by the 2 biggest bandwagon teams in the country(besides Miami of course).
