He is the best player in baseball, and considering the horrible structure in the MLB, the Cardinals realistically can not afford him. Pujols is the type of guy who would take a "discount" though.

I hate what baseball has become. I also hate how roiding has effected my perception, I'm still waiting for him to test positive, I trust no one anymore.
I would lean on the side that the Cards cant afford to lose hiim though, and Cards fans are loyal and go to the games, the franchise can afford him.

I don't think Cards can keep him. I look for him to maybe go to the Mets or one of the 2 L.A teams.

I just read a 2009 article valuing the franchise at around 500 Million then. Pujols is asking for an 8 yr deal at around 240 Million. Adding just those two up, they couldnt re-sign him.

I'd love to see Albert go to the AL. The Cards crumble is Pujols leaves.

I think the Cardinals should pay Pujols in the $25-30 million per year range, dude has earned it now.
However, I think Pujols should understand the lack of willingness to give someone turning 31 this year a 10 year contract, so I think a fair compromise would be a 5 year $140 million deal (or somewhere around that)
Albert gets his money, Cardinals aren't mired in a 10 year commitment.
But what good does sense do in a sports conversation?

I too would love to see him leave the NL. Not sure if they crumble, they got some pitching.

Two great pitchers and one good but unproven pitcher. That's not enough to win with zero offense. Holiday wouldnt be able to carry the offense alone.

All you really need in the Central outside of the Reds/Cards the division won't be very good again.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking about that. I'll just assume without Jocketty they'll spend that money unwisely.

i don't really think there's anywhere for him to go right now.
Boston and NYY have huge money wrapped up in 1st basemen in the early years of their contracts, the Mets are going to thru the Madoff debacle right now, and the Dodgers really can't afford him either....

Milwaukee is like the Cowboys suppose to be good but never really are. They collapsed last year.

It's amazing how bad the Brewers were last year with that offense. Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Hart, and McGee all had at least 20+ HR's and at least 80RBI's

lol Miwaukee won 90 games and made the playoffs 2 years ago.
Even when their offense is cold adding Marcum and Greinke to go with Gallardo gives them 3 aces who can win on any night.

baseball is a joke now. they need a salary cap and its sad but we will probably never see one. i hate seeing the yankees and red socks sign everybody. its no fun.
