I believe Milwaukee had a really good offense last year, they just were THAT bad in the pitching game.

Adding Greinke and Marcum is HUUUUGE for them.

It does suck, but we discussed this in a thread last year. MLB actually has as much parity as the NBA and NFL and that's with only 8 teams getting into the playoffs. If they had a cap I think you would see stars taking less to play in big markets just like you do in the NBA. Hopefully this year will have 2 more smaller market teams in the WS.

Good luck trying to explain this to him. Some people just refuse to look at statistics and they just parrot what bitter shock jocks whine about on their local sports radio station.

St. Louis would be stupid to not make some sort of competitive offer. The amount of money you throw at Pujols will be chump change compared to the amount of money the franchise will lose if he walks away. Just ask Dan Gilbert to compare how much his team was worth last year, compared to this year.

My heart wouldn't exactly break to not have to deal with Pujols during the season. But if the Reds don't see a player (or a team because of what he makes the Cardinals) like him on a regular basis we will end up with the same playoff result as last year.

The Cavs could've paid LBJ more than any other team and he still left. You can't compare this situation to the cavs since Pujols has a ring.

I'm talking less about the players and more about ownership. The amount of monetary damage Pujols' departure would cause, will far outweigh any contract they offer him.

Doubt it. St. Louis is one of the few big baseball towns left. They'll support the Cardinals with or without Pujols, especially if the Cards make an offer their fans deem to be competitive.

What type of contract would you offer him if you were St. Louis to try to keep him? He's your franchise, basically and puts up sick numbers, year after year. He is a big reason you draw the big crowds.

If St. Louis doesn't get him and he puts up another monster year, what do you see him getting?

His deal, made by whoever, will surpass the A-Rod deal by quite a bit, IMO.

St. Louis would sell out every game even if Albert Pujols was traded today. Probably the most loyal (in-terms of attendance) in the MLB.

With that said, I'd offer him enough to get him to stay but not money past a certain time. The Cards are in a tough spot because as an old team with arguably the worst farm system in baseball, there isn't much they can win if he isn't there. That's why this is so difficult. He is literally in a position where he can name his price and although the decision is the Cards to make whether he gets paid, the alternative to stick to their guns is pretty much resigning to the fact their team will be in crippled shape (especially in a few seasons).

ESPN reporting the hold up with contract is the years, but its the avg money per season. They offered him money that wasnt even top 5 in todays player salaries per season.
