I'm surprised Vitale has respect for any Duke player...

When the Carolina guy is lobbying for Smith to be NPOY you gotta listen. He is EASILY in the top 3-4

Well, it's pretty inexcusable to blow that lead, but I expected it. Carolina is a young team that does struggle offensively at times. They played way too conservative in the second half, got away from the gameplan, and that really killed them. Gotta give credit to dook for keeping their composure and coming back to win the game.
I still like where the Heels are headed though. They played pretty well, all things considered, in one of the most hostile environments in college basketball. They'll learn from this loss, and be better for it in the end. That said, they better whip dook's ass when they come to Chapel Hill.
On to Clemson. Another tough road game. Gotta win!

Just turning the game on. Obviously I know the result, but I'll give my thoughts later...

UNC is definitely on the right track. Their guard play just isnt quite yet elite, and Barnes disappears at times. Marshall looks great though, Zeller and Henson are long and just need to get stronger.

Also, Nolan smith might have just gotten his number in the rafters at Duke. A national championship and first team AA, possibly NPOY should do it. One of the legendary all time games by a Dukie.

Barnes definitely didn't do much tonight on the offensive end. The thing is, he completely shut down Singler...and Singler did the same to him, really. Barnes probably should have been a little more aggressive, but it's also good that he didn't just force shots. He needs to learn to move a little better off the ball and free himself up.
The difference tonight was Seth Curry. That freakin kid couldn't miss in the second half. Obviously Roy's plan was to let Smith get his (although I'm sure he didn't want him to get 34), and then take away everything else. Curry stepped up in the second half and got it done for dook.
Also, Kendall Marshall got tired. He was trying to guard Smith or Curry, plus run the point for basically the entire game. Had he been able to rest a little (I'm talking to you, Larry Drew II), he might have been more efficient on the offensive end. He couldn't get into the lane in the second half, and he didn't finish around the rim either.
When Carolina plays dook in Chapel Hill, they better make sure that Zeller and/or Henson touch the ball on every possession. dook has no answer for them at all, unless of course, Miles or Mason Plumlee are body checking them into the stands.
dook, down the road, better hope that Smith and Singler don't go cold on the same night. If that happens, they're OUT.

Would love to see Irving and Marshall go head to head, that would be great TV. May never happen though.
Duke with Irving is the favorite to win it all, without him they have to be hot to win big games.

What are the odds on Irving coming back? I know he has the cast off, and is doing rehab, but aren't they saying that he's still unlikely to return?
I feel bad for the kid. He's definitely a star. Hope he goes to the NBA, because I don't want to see him still in Durham next season.

Coach K, according to Dickie V, says this basically no chance he plays again this season.

Ehhhh
My guess is he didn't have the up to date numbers. Going into this year, it was UK 1 and Carolina 2
Of course you would think he would have updated numbers in front of him.

Good pic on ESPN.com of the new Scheyer face. Ryan Kelly is one weird looking dude.

Duke (Smith and Curry) knocked down open looks in the 2nd half, and got after the offensive glass. Carolina didn't play as well defensively in the 2nd, nor do as good a job getting the ball down low to Zeller and Henson, presumably due to better defense from the Dukies. Awful perimeter shooting (2-14, 14.3%, McDonald, Bullock, and Barnes couldn't hit water out of a boat) and ultimately going 13-22 for 59.1% did UNC in. I like the direction this team's headed, but I'm disappointed as I feel they let one get away tonight. Still seems they're searching for a go to guy. I like that Marshall appears to be emerging as the leader, and I think he wants to be that guy (had a couple nice drives late), but he needs to improve on finishing. His court vision is incredible, he had a number of great dishes over the course of the game.
I know Williams wants athletes who can get up and down the floor, but I don't understand why he doesn't recruit a pure three point shooter or two.

He said samething about Brand when he was out injured. Its a coaches mentality not to count on someone who is out. If he happens to come back, then its a bonus. I believe I read there is still a chance he could come back around ACC tourn time. Not sure how good a chance that is.

Is the tournament the best place to come off of a long term injury?

His father said yesterday the bones and ligaments are healed, and the rehab process is going well thus far. Still no target for return.
