While we have been to Myrtle a bunch of times, Daytona, Cocoa, Nags Head, we are looking for a more northern beach for maybe 4 days this summer. We want to stop in DC, and are wanting a beach south of NY, and north of the outer banks. Wife probably won't go in the water anyway, but wants to be able to open the balcony and hear some waves. We want to avoid the crowdedness of Myrtle (although I love the beach itself, so does everyone else), and want to be oceanfront (not bayside). Early ideas are Ocean City, Maryland, although the flyers I saw look almost as busy as Myrtle.

Any helpful chatter hints would be appreciated, including traffic concerns, accommodations, previous recent stays, shopping, good things to do there if it rains, and if there happens to be a golf course somewhere close that is worth taking my clubs you could throw that in also. Thanks in advance. Do we need a Chatter Travel Guide Page Forum?

I love Ocean City. I have never been to Myrtle Beach so I can't really compare the crowds but I never thought it was that bad. We never had a problem finding a spot on the beach and the boardwalk is a good time. My ex's condo is in the Atlantis and it's a great place.

Ocean City is great especially if you have young uns along for the trip, lots to keep them entertained. Usually pretty crowded though.

Thasher's French Fries are awesome.

Fab and Ytown, is one end of the beach better than the other. I would probably side for the less crowded end if there is one.

Krambman, any specifics, I have heard of Wildwood but there have to be alot more than that.

The further away from the boardwalk you get the less crowded it becomes, that's the north end.

I actually don't eat seafood so I cannot agree, lol. My ex's family pretty much shunned me for not partaking in the crab feasts. His little brother would always bring a friend and he didn't eat it either so him and I would enjoy our meals together haha.

SMH...my wife is not a fan of seafood either, she can eat shrimp and a few other things but that's about it. She was an absolute embarrassment in attempting to eat crab legs, consequently we only ate there a couple times over the course of a week. lol

Virginia Beach?

I have never been. My mom is going there in June sometime. Taking my wife and some other women. It's going to be a big women's trip.

Any tips about there?

Wherever the people on the show stay. Honestly, I was just being sarcastic about the Jersey shore.

Wildwood is nice, but allot of people from Jersey have vacation homes there that they go to in the summer. But, you may be able to find a rental for a few days.

SeaSide Heights (where they film Jersey Shore), people live there, but it is nothing more than a summer resort. Go there between late Oct.-April and it is a ghost town, and they are pretty much shut down. I dont know how packed it would be in the summer, as I have never stayed there, but it is a happening place.

Plus, there is an Ocean City NJ also, less crowded, with stuff to do, along the coast. Plus, it is only about 20 mins south of Atlantic city.

SeaSide Hgts is more Northern Jersey, While AC, OC and Wildwood are all southern Jersey.

Virginia Beach is very touristy just a smaller version of Myrtle Beach. It's not bad but I was there for 7 weeks end of June till early August and of course it was pack. Traffic is pretty bad all through that area, Norfolk, VA Beach. I personally don't think i'd ever vacation there if I had the opportunity to.
