If I receive an email with attachments, and I click Forward, the attachments will "rollover" to that new email [saving me a lot of time and frustration]. However, if I receive an email with attachments, and I click Reply, the attachments will NOT "rollover" to that new email [forcing me to save each attachment individually and re-attach them, causing me a lot of frustration and lost time].

There's gotta be a techy out there who knows of a setting or "patch" where I can click reply and have the attachments "rollover" to the next email along with the original sender in the TO: field and any CCs: in the CC: field.

Help?

why would you want to reply with the attachment? obviously if they sent it to you, they have it.

Because there are many times where I am replying to the individual and adding new users to the email "chain." Or... I know for a fact most users will keep the latest and greatest email only, and thus delete the email which contained the attachments. I'm one of those "thorough" types of people who likes to have everything (attachments and the entire email thread) in the latest and greatest email. I can't stand it when someone "scrubs out" the email or doesn't hit the reply button, and instead, initiates an entirely new email to reply back to the group. Then, instead of having everything all in one email, I now have to manage multiple emails. #Aggravating.

That kind of goes against what reply was meant to do. No trick that I know of.

No way around it.

Reply is meant to reply to the previous message w/o attachments.
Forward is meant to distribute the message to other parties w/ attachments.

If you wish to send the e-mail to others and the original sender, just Forward the e-mail and put their address in the e-mail also. It's really not that much work.

Why not just forward the reply, but include the person/people who sent it?

Or, just hit forward and copy and paste the addresses from the original email

Why doesn't Microsoft just have a little checkbox in the settings and no one has to look into this?!

Probably because there hasn't been anyone bringing it to their attention. I've never, ever heard that this is a frustration. Hell, I'd never even considered it before.

essentially if you're replying and adding new recepients, you're forwarding the email/attachment to new people and cc'ing the originator of the email.

Thinking about it now, I agree.

It was just an "oh yeah ..." moment for me. Never thought about it. Never felt inconvenienced by it. It would seem to be handy, though.

I've always just had the attitude that, if new people need it, attach it. If someone only saves the most recent email in a chain, it's their responsibility to ensure they've saved the file unless they want to ask for it again.

but you know damn well what happens is they never save it, and then they ask you, and then before you know it you're emailing the sucker out to 10 ppl (or you email it to someone and they get pissy because they already have it), and it's just one of those situations where you can't win for trying.

What I do is, I send an email like this:

"Hey guys. Everyone except _______ can disregard this. (S)he just needed me to resend the attachment."

It's weird. After doing it twice, everyone saves almost every time.

I make sure I mention them by name and that everyone else is CCed.

I'm kind of a prick about that stuff. Same with leaving computers unlocked. Since they all run on XP, if I see a computer unlocked, I Ctrl+Alt+Down it, then lock it.
