If you swish it in your mouth after you drink it, it's no different than drinking out of a glass.

O-Trap;1398395 wrote:Yeah, this was kind of the idea behind my comparison.

I'll eat pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, etc. with my hands. Cheap foods that are usually of little nutritional value or culinary expertise. The better the food, the less likely it seems to be acceptable to eat with your hands. Better food = utensils. Better beer = glass.
I'd like to see you try to eat a lobster (not the meat already removed, but the lobster as a whole and cooked) with only utensils.

Honestly, I don't think using utensils makes food taste any better, is it the social norm in most instances? Of course. Does it provide some element of satisfaction because you feel like you are having a higher class meal? Possibly. But the using of utensils doesn't make the food taste different.

That said, I do use utensils whenever it is appropriate as I generally abide by social norms unless I have a compelling reason not to. And I can't think of a compelling reason not to use eating utensils in most settings.

You taste with more than your mouth. Aroma is a huge part of the drinking experience. By drinking out of a can/bottle you cut this out of the equation, hence lower quality drinking experience. My beer's expensive, I want to get the most out of it. Want to be a redneck (lol) and drink out of can/bottle go for it.

blah blah blah, ngaf. Constant contrarian. If you want to talk about lobster, start your own thread.

I didn't find this TOO difficult after having lobster a couple times. Admittedly, the first time, I had no idea what I was doing, but you get better at something like that.

Fair enough. Perhaps the analogy was not a perfect 1-to-1 comparison. I came up with it on the fly. Sue me.

Way too sweet for me. Taste like artifical sugar was added after the brewing.

I was disappointed the first time I had it. However, I got to try it after it was left sitting out for a year. It was DELICIOUS after the aging.

Interesting you point that out, I brought Frangelic Mountain to my tasting group and one guy there went on and on about it tasting artificially flavored. I had no idea what he was talking about.

+1, what a shitty post NGAF about. I come on this thread to read about beer, not to see someone pretend to be an elitist about lobster. Who gives a fuck?

You really eat lobster without using your hands to rip off the tail or help crack the claw or tear off the legs? How'd you do that? I'm not even mad, that's amazing.

But ya, I was just giving you a hard time.

I actually have no problem drinking beer out of bottles, I don't think it really tastes that different from a proper beer glass or mug. If I'm out at a restaurant or at a nice dinner at a friends house I'll go with a glass. But if it's just a casual hanging out at a friends, sporting related, or a backyard cookout, I wouldn't bother with a glass unless it was offered.

I do use a fork and a crab cracker. I guess I don't normally eat the legs of a lobster. Tail and claws aren't too bad with just those.

Well fork and crab cracker is a given. But the way I've learned to take off the tail is to grab the back with one hand and the tail with the other and twist. Of course some restaurants do the hard work for you and serve a "whole" lobster already cracked and the tail removed.

What kind of beer do you pair with lobster or seafood in general?

I'm a fan of Hefeweizens in general and usually drink it if available when I have seafood.

If I'm having good seafood, I normally opt for a white wine instead. However, on the few occasions I've done a beer, I've gotten a witbier to go with it. If I can, I opt for GL Holy Moses.

I'm going to dollar beer night. $1 gets you a Miller Lite or Bud Light. Cue all the "you'd have to pay me to drink that shit" responses.

Ya, I'm not against a white wine with seafood, and if I'm with others who want wine, I'll partake.
