Five categories that determine what makes a fan base great
Get statistics for those five categories and determine where the Bengals fall
A suggestion?
1. sellouts over last 10 years?
2. merchandise sales figures in relation to the size of the metropolitan area?
3. season ticket increase or retention numbers over last ten years?
a couple more categories that you think are relevant?

That would certainly be more scientific than his method. He was simply googled a handful of sites where authors gave their opinion of the worst fanbases in football, and then acted like that 5 minutes of "research" was gospel.
