How much does your renewal cost? I am sending in my renewal application today to the ODE. It costs me $200 to renew, every 5 years.

My fiancee pays $700 to the DEA every 3 years and $250 to Ohio every 2 years.

I have no certifications anymore, so nothing for me.

GOOD NIGHT! That sucks!

Is she required to have updated education and professional development upon renewal? Teachers have to have so many CEU's built up whether it is from seminars, Masters work, etc. Not sure of the number of actual hours.

Yeah, like 20 CE per year. So like 40 per renewal

I'm not sure, to be honest, because our firm handles the fees automatically. Between CLEs and renewal fees for various bar organizations, I'd guess we're well over $1,000 annually.

I am licensed by the state of Ohio to solemnize marriages. It required proof that I am a regularly licensed minister and there was a one-time fee of $10.

Like FFT, between fees, CLE, corporation renewal, local business license (WTF?) and malpractice it is about $3,000 a year just to be in business. And that does not include ABA or local bar dues, as I refuse to pay into that. If I were to put a dollar amount on the 50 hours of pro bono I'm supposed to do a year according to the state Supreme Court, that's another $10,000 of work I'm supposed to do without getting paid.

I too am a professional driver. I have to renew every 4 years. I think it is something around $50-$60. :D

Given that you estimate 50 hours of pro bono to be around $10,000 worth of work, that breaks down to $200 an hour. In that case $3000 a year to practice seems perfectly reasonable to me.
