Ted Williams chose to leave rehab in Texas because he was unhappy with his treatment but plans to pursue similar help through an outpatient center at some point, a family friend said today.

"He wants recovery," said the source, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity. "That's the only thing that's going to help him."

The 53-year-old Williams - a one-time Columbus panhandler whose "golden voice" was recorded on a Dispatch.com video that went viral - made headlines again Monday after voluntarily checking out of the Origins Recovery Center in South Padre Island.

He had spent less than two weeks there after a three-episode stint on Dr. Phil.
