Who's got em? Do you like it or are you in it for the money?
I work at MTS up in Temperance, MI. I'm the nightshift stockhandler and although I like the money I don't plan on making a career out of it. I have too many coworkers with work related injuries over doing the same thing daily for years on end. I don't need that. Anyone in the same boat?

Yep, I do the factory thing. Hate it. Just too repetitive doing the same damn thing daily. But it pays well, so I stay with it.

I do. Pay and benefits are amazing. Even if I went to school for four years there is a small chance to make what I do with the benefits I have. So I will be doing the same thing for the next 34 years.

Seems like a terrible life decision.
But as long as you get that damned house with a backyard and a car, maybe a pool at somepoint who cares right?

Yes and no, making a living is the first priority of working. That said, if I was staring 20+ years of something I hated in the face, I sure as hell would be looking at ways to change things.

You believe that job is going to be there 15 or 20 or 30 years down the line?

I sure hope so. It has been there for 42 years already. And they are only adding production.

they're great while they're here, but unless you've got at least 20 years seniority, the odds are against you that you'll be retiring from there....automation, computerization, and outsourcing ain't going away

I am not going to begrudge a guy who makes an honest living. The world needs ditch diggers too.
That being said, I worked these types of job while in college. Those four years made me realize those jobs were not for me.

What do you consider amazing pay/benefits? Does it suffice for mind-numbing work that doesn't challenge you in life?

I too would like to know what "amazing pay/benefits" consist of at a factory job.

I can't speak for him, but I pay nothing for excellent insurance, good pension, and make 23+ an hour. Thats great pay and benefits around here.

Able to make $100k if I want to, over $120 a month per year worked for pension. Don't pay for health care. Three paid breaks for an eight hour shift. 6 weeks vacation and 6% match in 401k. I don't have a college education so I would say these are amazing benefits and I am extremely fortunate for my job

Yeah where I work they give me free healthcare, and match 8% in 401k. The wages are mostly piece rate over there so it's all over the place. I'm hourly so at least I know what I'm getting. What I consider the best part is that they are willing to pay for my schooling when I go back so I can get my Bachelors. Kind of a win win for me.

But at least you get to go to Romania? Surely that has to count for something!

Sounds like the company that you work for is making smart financial decisions and will be around for a long time.

If I lived up north where the weather sucks half the year I'd like a factory job because of the money etc.
I used to have a job that could put me from the ghetto to an oceanfront mansion, you just never knew what the next call was. I loved it.
