*EDIT*

This is no longer about Macy's furniture.

Does anyone have a positive or negative review of La Z Boy furniture? We found the perfect sofa for our house there this morning and it is actually $100 cheaper than the sofa at Macy's.

Did you check to see if Max Home isn't just a name slapped on for Macys?...I think some of these department stores have names exclusive to them, but they are made by like broyhill or other major furniture companies.

I found the max home website but I'm not sure if that means anything. I didn't see any mention of it being a rebadged brand while I was searching last night. You could be right and I just wasnt looking hard enough.

My wife and I bought our kitchen table there, actually off their website and couldn't be happier. I know it's not a sofa we liked what we got from Macy's.

We actually found a sofa we really like a La-Z-Boy so this thread might have been pointless.

Sofa is looking good there. Keep that pic so you remember what it looked like before your friends get drunk and piss and puke all over it.

I don't associate with that fella outside of the interwebz. My real life friends are all classy, respectful, toilet-trained people. :)

My family has bought a lot of La Z Boy furniture. Seems about your run of the mill stuff to me. Nothing bad to say about it.

I think it's at least middle tier. I'd so in most cases it's probably better than the value brands you find at department stores, which tend to mark-up ridiculously high prices on low quality stuff. A high-end store like Bloomingdale's Home might be different with some name brand quality stuff, but a Macy's or JCPenney are going to have mostly low-end stuff regardless if the price seems to indicate otherwise.

I had two (La Z Boy) recliners, lasted me about 20 years. We moved to a smaller house, couldn't take them with us, so the in-laws have them now. Still in good shape.

Positives:

Always have good deals happening - one can almost always buy for a significant discount from the sticker price.
Good furniture for a den or room where there is a lot of lounging - they tend be comfortable, spacious and approachable

Negatives:

Long-term quality is spotty, it isn't the type of furniture that you want to give to your kids eventually, wood/fabric isn't something that is worth the $$$ to keep up. Definitely a step up from IKEA but nothing that you want to refurbish.

Overall, if you plan on keeping it forever and want a comfortable piece, one can certainly do a whole lot worse.

We have a pair of LZB recliners we bought when my wife was pregnant with Darby Diva (she slept in them for the last two months of pregnancy due to heartburn problems). Twenty-plus years later, they still look and feel like a million bucks after three kids, six dogs and a pair of cats - it's the best money we've ever spent on furniture.

We've been on the hunt for a good couch and love seat for two months now . . . we finally bought ones last week. We looked everywhere, including La Z Boy, but ended up buying from Macy's. We were pretty particular . . . leather reclining sofa and love seat, but ones that didn't look like they reclined (most of the leather reclining ones look like they belong in a basement or media room, but we wanted them for our living room). The La Z Boy stuff was great and they seem to have a lot of models with specific lumbar supports, etc., we just didn't go with them because all of their reclining stuff had that lever on the outside, which we hated.

Anyway, good luck with the couch, it looks like a nice one. Ours come Thursday and we can't wait, our current stuff is junk.

By the way, most of the furniture salespeople we encountered were ridiculous. They would all pop up as soon as we walked through the door. Then, after I told them to give us some time to look around, they'd tell me that sounds great, but still follow us around throughout the entire store. The guy at Value City went so far as to look away every time we looked back at him, I guess assuming that by looking away he was fooling us into thinking he wasn't following us. It made my wife so uncomfortable she wouldn't even sit on the furniture and try it. We ended up messing with the guy and just wandering in and out of different areas of the store, all the while taking abrupt turns, etc. . . . . and he just kept following.
