Just all depends. I'm an outdoors type of guy, so I find uses for my on a daily basis between that and my job.

Im not sure how exactly the laws work on them but I do know it has to do with the length of the knife when it comes to certain laws. Also you want to keep it closed at all times cause if it is open they can charge you for something i just cant remember it right now due to too many beers lol

A few. The exposed blade has to be a certain length, and you can't have a completely spring-loaded blade (switch blade). Technically, neither of these are ever really enforced that often, but they ARE the law. There might be others as well.Pick6;640565 wrote:are there any laws about carrying a knife?
Yeah, I didn't used to think so, either, and that may continue after carrying one for some. I'm convinced it's a person-to-person thing.raiderbuck;640814 wrote:I see, I think my grandfather used to carry a knife. But, I have yet to find a purpose for one in my life (at least for everyday use)

It depends on the knife also. As you can see many of the pocket knife list (pictured) are of quality blades and easy opening type. Carrying a cheap knife that is difficult opening and closing, a weak and dull blade is also a problem and will distract from it usage. Knife carriers understand the value of quality and its usefulness.raiderbuck;640362 wrote:I don't understand...whats the purpose of carrying a knife nowadays?

You can own a switch blade, just can't carry it

I guess by "have," that was what I meant. Given the topic and the smaller discussion I was having trying to answer that question, I just sort of took that carrying was a given.
For clarity's sake though, it's probably good that you were more specific. Thanks for helping me out.

Question: At what age did you start to carry your first knife?
My grandpa gave me my first pocket knife when I was 10 years old 1959 (I did not take good care of it ..sad to say) but I learned the value of a pocket knife as I got older ... and he bought me another one that was bigger when I was 13 years old.
Living in the country and carrying a knife was not a problem for the locals and the school system. When my mom and I moved into the city and lived in the Projects carrying a knife took on a different meaning .... not good for me, the law and the school system

I didn't start carrying one until I was about 16. My uncle gave me his old Buck knife, and like Belly, I was too young to take care of it. Let it rust and dull. It was sad.
When I did start carrying one, it was a newer Buck.
