I’m going to hate this …
61 years old, beat cancer twice, 6 foot and 235, little high blood pressure, type II sugar and full head of hair. Realized two weeks ago I have no ass anymore…
I consider myself (after see what other 61 year guys look like and their problems) a very health and lucky guy.
I know I am over weight and my family is on me about doing something about it. I put in a full day and the idea of adding something else is just crazy.
So here is what I’m going to do:
1. I’m going to sign up for weight watcher with my wife. This should be OK not a problem. We do the weight watcher meals some what but not totally. The wife is doing great with this program.
2. I’m signing up at a Local Physical Fitness Center (I would go where my wife works-out but she goes to a women only center)
As a long time ago athlete I hated workouts and gym work ………. I was never a gym rat
So why am I tell the OC this? Because I’m going to hate this and need encouragement and positive points that I could potential encounter by doing this. I know it for my health and to live longer and the family loves you….
I keep telling the wife if I get to chiseled, I may not be able to keep the other women off me…Her reply “I’ll take that chances”
Any other OC do the workout and how many time per week should I start with to be able to work into this …potential hell.

Lost 85+ lbs since 2003. I tried all things before that...and nothing really worked until I really was fed up and WANTED wholeheartedly to do it and bought into it.
I didnt to a program. I ate less, ate healthier and started to work out more. I, too, was an athlete "back in teh day" and I hated workouts as well. Never been a gym rat.
Start slow. I found that when I tried to work out, and eat healthy all at the same start time I failed....miserably.
Ease your way into the workouts and slowly start to change your intake. My trainer was always big on 'not drinking your calories' and it is true! I did strictly cardio for a few years before i started weights.
My advice....allow yourself to still have the stuff you love...just less doses an dless often. I love pizza...instead of downing a 12 inch pizza at least once a week...I would have a few slices every week. Instead of wings every week I had them once a month. If ya try too much, too quick it can backfire.
Goodluck......I still consider myself a fat guy in a less than fat guy body right now....and it can be a constant struggle but it is worth it.
Nothing that is worth doing is ever easy.
How often? I would say every other day to start off. Then PT two days in a row then a day off...once you get that under your belt do three in a row with a day off. Mix up the workouts....cardio, weights....you do not wanna get stale because boredom kills motivation to go and workout.
It sucks at first...but it is a good suck....or one could say....embrace the suck! When ya start you kinda dread the PT, but soon after you get into a good routine you look forward to them and you start to feel bad and sluggish the days you take off. Right now if I dont do some PT I feel off that ady
Goodluck.......

You've beat cancer twice, something like this should be minor compared to that.

This worked for me 1 yr ago - lost 28 lbs.
Be specific
Make sure your resolutions are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-based (SMART).Don't just say: "I want to lose weight." Instead say: "I want to lose 5 pounds each month so that I look better by the fourth of July." Make realistic, measurable goals and write them down.
Go public
Many of us prefer to keep our New Year's resolutions to ourselves. Unfortunately, this makes it all too easy to simply forget or ignore them. Instead, go public. Tell your friends, family and workmates and ask them to support you. For example, if you want to lose weight, ask colleagues not to offer you sweets and snacks throughout the day. If you're lucky, some will have similar goals and you can work on your resolutions together

AM workouts are the best - gets the metabolism going all day.
Also, eat small meals throughout the day, and try to only have one serving of carbs a day and load up on protein

If your 61, I suggest Power 90. It's cheaper, you can do it in your living room, no wasted time at the gym waiting for equipment with guys standing around BSing.

Home workouts can def be cheaper.....but there are so many things to distract ya. You just just a few steps away is teh fridge, the living room, the bedroom, and also there are always things ya could be doing around the house...but when ya got to they gym many people can focus more.
at leasete that is how it is for me.

I get more done in my basement at home that I do at the local gym. I will go to the gym to swim, bike and run (in the winter), but that is it, I stay out of the weight room there.
I work out my house in home office, so I am used to it, I could see why some go to the gym to get away.

Just make sure you actually do whatever sort of regimine you decide on. Start slow for a week or two just to get in the habit of going to the gym and doing something. Then start adding things little by little. This is not a sprint so take it as slow as you need to. But also ramp it up a bit if you feel like you want to or feel like you aren't doing enough.

God forbid, but if cancer tries to come back a third time, it will have less space to chose from if you lose a lot of weight.

I lost 49 pounds freshman year (from 255 to 206) consuming only Taco Bell and beer! I highly recommend it.

Don't go on a "diet". You have to go on a "lifestyle change" in your eating habits. You don't need any "programs". All you need to do is watch what you eat (cut out a lot of the sugars - eat healthy); watch the AMOUNT you eat (i.e., portion control); and exercise. Walking is one of the best exercies you can do and it is easy for most all people. Basically if you walk for an hour a day that is about 4-5 miles a day. You will be amazed at how the weight will just peel right off if you do the above.

I go to the YMCA in Newark about 4 times a week.
Take kickbox classes and lift and the eliptical.
At one time I was around 250, now I am 218.
When I don't go I feel bad both mentally and physically.
I never really liked working out myself either now I look forward to it.

I've lost 57 lbs. in just a few weeks shy of a year. I went to the doctor is late January of 2010 and weighed in at 247 (wow, I know, fat ass) I decided to start running and limited my calories to 2000 calories per day. I started on the treadmill and was so out of shape it was ridiculous. I would run as far as I could without stopping and then walk and then run again. I got better at it and each week added a quarter mile on the treadmill until mid-March when I went outside to run. I really began to love running once I got outside. Kept my calories at 2000 and set a goal and ran The Race for the Cure 5k in under 30 minutes. Next was to set a new goal, Columbus Half Marathon. Training was tough but I really began to lose weight when I started running longer distances. 3 miles 3 times during the week with a long run on Saturday morning. I ran the Half in 2 hours 14 min. In September I joined the gym and began working out there three days a week weight training and now I do most of my cardio there as well just due to weather. So to answer you question I am at the gym 5 or 6 days a week. I lift three days, two days of cardio and then the last day I try to run long distance outside if the weather isn't too bad. I weighed in this morning at 190. (I've also upped my calories to 2300 in the last month or so)
My schedule looks like this
Sunday - 10 min cardio warm up - Lift - 10 min cool down
Monday - 45 min cardio
Tuesday - 10 min cardio warm up - Lift - 10 min cool down
Wednesday - 45 min cardio
Thursday - 10 min cardio warm up - Lift - 10 min cool down
Friday - Off
Saturday - Long run outside or 5-6 miles on the treadmill

To better prepare myself for the experience of working out and to have a positive feeling about doing this. What can I expect to see?
Images of this or something else?

One more question.
How do I hide my holster tan line?

Belly update:
Yesterday was my first day at the gym with a trainer.
We reviewed the equipment and the setting for me. I was clueless
The trainer also worked with me on the proper weights and 2x15 reps per machine.
As we where doing this she keep adjusting the weights and shaking her head. Nothing seemed difficult at first but as she adjusted it became slightly harder.
61 years old, 220 pounds, 6 foot tall
Chest press… 70 pound
Pulldown …..110 pound
Arm extension ….60 pound
Leg press …… 210 pound
Leg curl …….100 pound
Ab crunch…. 100 pound
My question is: Is that good weights for someone old and out of shape?
I didn’t think I would like the tread mill …. but it was good. I was on it for 30 minutes and adjusted the speed to where I was comfortable walking fast (not running yet). The incline 0.
Do only fat people go to the gym???? I was hoping for better visuals
