Announcement is today at 2pm.
Who do you think is getting in this year? Does Blyleven get in? Should he? One has to think Alomar is a shoe-in this year after missing last year.

Alomar was a no brainer. Bagwell deserved it but perhaps the PED issue hurt him despite no evidence that he participated.
Blyleven deserves to be in the hall of very good. Great stats, long career...yet people back in the day didn't even know about him.

Que? He got the most votes. He was the highlight of the class. He had 10 gold gloves for god's sake.

Has nothing to do with his playing ability...

What are gold gloves given for then if not for playing ability?

Larkin is a lock for 2012. An EXTREMELY weak first year eligible class (Bernie Williams is the best of the bunch) will help out a bit.

I guess I still do not get Jack Morris not being in. Huge oversight IMHO.

Alomar was one of my all-time favorite players. IMO th best defensive 2nd baseman ever, one of the best baserunners I've ever seen and a very very good hitter.
As for his run in with the spitting...he and the ump are close friends and he did a fundraiser for numerous years following to raise money for the umps sick kid.

As far as Alomar goes, I heard on the radio today that his range factor was below average every year he played. He was great when he could get to balls, he just didn't get to that many.

If his range factor went down each year.......shouldn't his SB have done the same.
Throw whatever stats you want for fielding....Alomar was a baseball player....one of the very best all-around players...and an unbelievable fielder.

His range factor not only didn't go down every year but his range factor per game and per 9 innings was better from age 28-32 than it was from age 23-26.....it's also probably not a coincidence that from age 23-26 he was the best 2nd baseman in baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays....playing on some of the fastest turf anywhere.......before and after he was on grass......range factor factor...I'd say yes.

I didn't say it went down every year. Compared to all second baseman, his range factor was below average every year.
I'm not saying he isn't a HOFer or anything like that, just sharing something I heard that I wouldn't have guessed.

I just don't buy it....gotta be a flaw in the RF stat which I never really liked. Alomar had incredible instincts was incredibly intellignet on where players hit and was a tremendous base stealer so he obviously had at least slightly better than average speed.
My bad on the reading comprehension......but turf lowered his RF compared to the grass??? what's up there? is the RF like the HR per AB? Many things go into it.
Doesn't matter......nothing will change my mind. I watched it for over a decade. HOF....good enough.

I would think the turf would lower his range factor. A faster surface means the ball gets on him or past him faster. If the ball is getting through holes quicker, wouldn't that make it more difficult for him to get to them, which would then technically mean his range suffers? It might not be the most accurate thing due to the difference between turf and grass, but it is what I heard.
