Chances are you will be selling more than life insurance. I have a friend that worked at State Farm for a while and moved on to Nationwide - it is a sales driven career and all types of insurance are part of the equation. If you can generate business you can be compensated well, but it is a highly competitive market.

You start out selling to every person you know, have ever known, have ever talked to, etc. Then you start cold calling and advertising like crazy. It's best to start it in a dual income household because there can be months where you don't make any money, but the more you sell, not only the more money you can make off of commission, but also residuals,

This.

I did it for 2 years....100% commission. Life insurance, health insurance, and investments for a local company in Toledo.

Horrible decision, I regret the 2 years I spent there.

If you are the type of person who has no problem 'bugging' our friends/family/acquaintances to buy buy buy from you, then go for it....Those who can make it in the business can build up VERY nice incomes....I started with 3 other people straight out of college, all 3 left before me, then I left after 2 years....I have since heard that 3-5 more people were hired in, and left....So, the last 6-8 new hires never made it over the 3-5 year hump to the point where you can breathe easy and enjoy a nice income...

I'm biased because I tried and failed I guess, and am now enjoying a nice salary and a 8-5 job.

I've read that agents selling life insurance alone have a very difficult time today - more people now buy simple term policies, which produce very little profit for an agent.
