I've only ever been to MRM, but live about the same distance from Snow Trails as I do from MRM. For those who have been to both, which location do you think it better? I'm particularly interested in which is best for skiing, as I ski and don't snowboard. Is one bigger than the other? More runs? More crowded? Bigger hill? Any info from those who have been to both would be appreciated.

Snow Trails by a long shot. Both are crowded, but at least snow trails is built on a real hill. Snow trails was a lot better before they built the snow tubing hill, but it is still better. I always spend my time on the east chair when I go. Snow trails has more runs and is bigger overall.

If you go to snow trails, make sure you lock up/check you ski's. Lots of skis/snowboards have come up missing lately.

Uhmmmm....I live in Bellefontaine and how do you figure MRM isn't a "real hill?" That hill is part of a series of hills in Logan County, that have been there since the glacier went through thousands of years ago. There is no part of that hill that is not real.

As for the question, I've never been to Snow Trails. Obviously since I live 5 minutes from MRM, I go there quite a bit.

It looks like they backed a bunch of dumptrucks up on the top of the main hill, like Tiger at Boston Mills. It just looks unatural to me.

We live in Ohio, there are no real hills here. What we call hills are actually small bumps. My parents live in Idaho. The bunny runs out there are bigger than the main hill at either place here in Ohio. I'm surprised to hear that Snow Trails has more runs. Looking at the trail map on their website it looks like they have fewer runs, but that their hill is more open and all the runs just look like they go straight down the hill.

I for one like Mad River better. More runs and a different variety of runs. Snow trails seems to be about half the size of MRM.

You are correct, but there is only one way to go down MRM that is entertaining from only one lift. At Snowtrails there are two to four lifts that service runs that are ski worthy.

I've been on Ski-Patrol at both places in 80s & 90s. MRM is actually the highest pt. above sea level in Ohio (was called Campbell Hill before resort was built). Both have comparable Vertical Drop with ST having 2 runs that could be considered "expert" while MRM only has one. But MRM has longest continuous run between the two. Don't know currently, but even as of last year MRM had a better daily rate by a $1.00 than ST.

They are very much alike. But I always thought MRM had a better bar & bar scene than ST, and that would give the nod to MRM.

MRM Is better to me also been to both quite a bit just seems Mrm is bigger and longer to me. Plus it is the highest place in ohio. Ohh and it might make a difference to me that my old boss used to own it when I was younger.

Campbell hill is located at Ohio Hi Point Career Center, not MRM. You are a retard.

Where are you pulling this information from (aside from your ass)? Have you ever been to MRM? There are a total of SIX lifts at MRM.

As for the highest point in Ohio, ETB is correct. That is actually at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center (Campbell Hill). It is actually in Bellefontaine. However, it is only about 3 miles away from MRM. There is a series of "hills" throughout Logan County, more-so around Bellefontaine/Zanesfield. It is actually quite beautiful. And they are real "hills." Not mountains, but hills. The elevation from the highest point is 1,460 feet and the face includes a 300-foot vertical drop. This was all made naturally.

Here are some comparisons between the two. All in all, it looks like MRM is a few bucks cheaper and has more to offer. I can second the above post about the lodge/bar area being great too. Usually live bands, plenty of room/TV's and affordable drinks. I've gone to MRM and not skied several times.

Highest Point:
MRM - 1460 ft.
ST - 1475 ft.

Vertical Drop:
MRM - 300 ft.
ST - 300 ft.

Snow Base:
MRM - 52"
ST - 52-55"

Acerage:
MRM - 144 acres (all 144 are skiable)
ST - 200 acres (60 are skiable)

Ski/Snowboard Lifts:
MRM - 6
ST - 6

Trails:
MRM - 24
ST - 15

Weekend Lift Ticket (full day):
MRM - $43
ST - $45

Ski Rental (full day):
MRM - $29
ST - $29

It is nearly the highest point in the state. And it's a natural "hill." Not sure what you makes you think it looks man made.

Oh and I have an idea...since it's the same distance why not just go there and compare them yourselves? I don't mean that in a bitchy way either. That's seriously what I would do.

Because I've been to Mad River Mountain and it's good by Midwest standards and a few dollars cheaper than Snow Trails, so I don't want to take a whole day off work and head to Snow Trails to find out that it's crappy compared to Mad River Mountain. I don't have the extra cash or time to waste a whole day skiing at a place that sucks. This is why I posed the question to those who have been to both.

Deciding the ski resort thing huh? I have that same problem. I mean, every Salt Lake City and Park City area resort is only two hours away, or do I go three hours to go to Jackson, or do I hit up the Colorado resorts or Sun Valley which are only about 5 hours out. Damn, what a problem.....

LOL, it's all good, trannie. I worked as a lift operator there in the Winter of 2000. Was fun to ski for free! I grew up 5 miles from there too, so I know the local history a little better.

Jackson is a great city, so I would pick there. Also, Sun Valley is fantastic. My parents live about an hour-and-a-half from there, so if I were you I would make the long drive up there. Beautiful setting, great resort, awesome clubhouse, and awesome skiing.

Alas, I am here in Ohio so unless I'm visiting my family I'm stuck skiing here.

Judging by the response here (which is mixed) it seems that even if MRM is better it's not by much. So I don't think you'd be wasting an entire day skiing at a place that sucks. And if you don't have the cash and time to waste why do you ski in the first place (or take off work to do so)? It seems a little contradictory. You would take off work and spend a day skiing one place but wouldn't try out a place that is comparable. Why not just go on a day off?

I don't get days off. And I have the time and money to take days off, but only a few a winter (I prefer to save my days off for the summer). I only go skiing two or three times a winter, so I didn't want to try out Snow Trail having never been there, only to find out that it's crappy and end up wasting close to $100 and a day off work. Since I don't have the time or cash to go skiing every weekend I want to get the best value for my time and money when I do go. This is the whole reason I started the thread, because I wanted to find out if I was missing out by always going to MRM. I had no idea if Snow Trails was good or not, so I wanted input from others who had been to both places before heading there and it possibly being a bust. It sounds like at best Snow Trails is as good as MRM, so I probably will head there once this winter and see if I like it better.
