It was about 1:45am, and I had just got onto RT 8 south in Akron off Howe Ave. I set my cruise control, and sat back as I had the freeway all to myself, when I suddenly noticed several flashing red and blue lights way behind me. I went around a curve, and they reappeared in my rear view mirror and were gaining at a high rate of speed. I thought this was awful late for a Presidential motorcade, and then noticed a car in front of them, and realized it was a pursuit in action. They got closer and closer, so I played it safe and pulled onto the berm. They shot by me at over 100 mph. Here, the fleeing driver was driving a white 1996 Oldsmobile Cierra trying to flee 4 State Troopers, and 3 Akron cops. Really??? I got back on, and sped up to watch...haha.

Another Akron cop placed spike strips at an exit, so the driver kept going. The suspect then bailed onto I-76 West toward Barberton. How the idiot made the turn at that speed blows my mind. I thought for sure the moron was gonna crash. That's when I lost sight of them.

I haven't seen a news report on it yet... I'm kinda curious to see if my car was captured on the chase video and what the neanderthal did to start the chase.

...as you stated they were going over 100 mph. Then how in the hell did you know it was a 1996 Oldsmobile Cierra? At that rate of speed passing me I would have just seen a white blurr. And during the dark? Son, you have the eyes of a hoot owl.

Actually yes. I forget which street I was in Toledo, but there were cops telling everyone to pull over, and I was like "What the heck for?" and about 30 seconds later this car went whizzing by doing about 110 mph. It was intense.

He blew by me by Tallmadge Ave exit... He could have slowed by the time he got to the off ramp.

Also, the highway is lit up right there. Spotting what kind of car was easy. I know my makes and models well.

Sad thing is, I was so caught up in watching them approach, I completely forgot to take video with my cell phone. GRRRR!!! lol

wonder how far he got going on 76 W before he ran into problems... not a whole lot of places to get off the freeway and lose the cops between there and 71 S

I was just on that part of 8 this morning on my way to work. I don't take it unless I am coming to work straight from Columbus on Monday mornings. I will have to check out the news today and see what was going on.

I was sitting at a red light many years ago, at US1 and Granada in Ormond Beach, 4 lanes plus turn lanes each way. All of a sudden I hear sirens like crazy. Some cars are making left turns. Like a blur, in broad daylight a pickup came through and BOOM !!! What a crash ! There was half a dozen cop cars and the quick ones had their doors open, guns drawn and pointed at the truck before the debris stopped rolling. The guys had just robbed the bank 2 blocks down the street, the police station is almost on the corner of the intersection I was at.

Speedofsand - nice!

I checked all the local news websites and still haven't seen anything. It would have been in today's newspapers under police reports.

saw one when i lived in houston on the 610 loop. right after they passed me, the guy crashed into the median, into a river/creek and they had a standoff. i timed it perfect because they shut down the interstate for like 2 hours because of it and i was heading home to ohio.

When I was just out of high school a friend of mine ran from the cops and got away. He hid his car in my garage for a few days until things blew over. He had lost his drivers license and still drove his car into town. (dumb) The cops saw him and he took off and lost them on the back roads. He called his parents from my house and they told him the cops were there waiting for him so don't even come home. They only chased him because they recognized his car, but they did not get his license plate number so he got away with it. (He had a Monte SS with dark tinted windows, so they knew it was him but they couldn't prove it.)

Just for kicks I looked for him in the Franklin county database. (Obviously that only covers crimes in Franklin county) He has one receiving stolen property arrest in 1992 and 10 traffic offenses from 95-2005. I haven't talked to him for a long time. I do remember him getting in trouble for stolen property (as I remember one of his friends asked to store some stuff in his garage and that stuff turned out to be stolen) but I have no idea what kind of trouble he might be in now.

Saw one about 13-15 years ago in Zanesville....dude was driving in reverse. Scared the F out of us in the car. I dont think it would qualify as a high speed chase since he was going in reverse but he had to be going 45-50.
