Actually they are not considerably better than 0%.

Like I said, I spend a dollar once in awhile on the lottery, but I have no dilusions that the chances are "considerably" better than 0%.

It is something like 1 in 176,000,000...or about 0.00000057%

So no, not considerably higher than 0%. You have to go to 7 decimal places before you get "off" 0%.

That is considerably higher. In fact, it's an infinitely higher chance of winning than 0%.

Anyone know of anybody actually winning. I know a guy from Delta Ohio that actually won. He is one of the biggest donors to OSU. Anyone guess his name?

A friend of mine (who was actually pretty well-off) once put it this way to me: $20 for a ginormous lotto is entertainment value, i.e. it's worth it to be able to dream about winning that money for a few days. Best rationalization I've heard.

The discouraging thing is when you get 5 or even 20 tickets and only one even has the powerball. Granted, your odds of getting the powerball on a ticket are only like 1 in 50 or whatever it is.

No its 0.0000057% higher, not infinitely higher.

However, if you are talking ratios like 2 times higher, then to the common man maybe its infinitely higher, but technically not buying a ticket does not equal 0%.

I could walk by a ticket on the ground (some chance of that), I could pick it up (some chance of picking it up), and it could be the winner.

Now, that chance is definitely less than just buying the winning ticket, but it is still not 0%.

Right now I'd be happy with 2.3 Million. Your still getting over a million after tax, with a 10% return every year I would never have to work again. I wouldn't be filthy rich but living comfortably!

OK, someone please help me out here... I went out and bought two tickets today. The lady asked me if I wanted the kicker, and I said yes. This is the first time I've ever played this. What the hell is the kicker? It says the kicker drawings last until 1/14 and 1/15, but the mega millions is tomorrow night.

Will someone please dumb it down for this idiot?

KICKER drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday at
11:00 P.M., EST

Say "YES" to the KICKER, and you could win up to $100,000. Just mark the KICKER "K" box on your MEGA MILLIONS bet card, or ask your Lottery retailer to give you the KICKER along with your MEGA MILLIONS bet.

To win the top prize, players must match all 6 numbers in exact order from left to right.

Also, players can win by matching 2, 3, 4 or 5 numbers, in exact order from left to right and win $10 to $5,000!

The kicker is essentially another lottery drawing, and cost another $1 correct?

I payed $3 for two tickets. However, I only see one number where the kicker is, so that is my guess.

Yeah, they'll draw two sets of numbers tomorrow night, one for the mega millions and one for the kicker. As I wear pants already stated, if you get the kicker numbers right (from L to R) you can win up to 100k depending on how many numbers you have. The mega millions is much the same way but obviously the reward for matching all the numbers is much much bigger than 100k, hence, the reason you bought your ticket.

In addition, The final Kicker drawing will be Jan. 14, 2011 as well, as they are retiring it. Mega Millions is then adding on a prize multiplier option which will cost an extra $1 per line, it goes on sale after Jan. 14.

That is the last Kicker drawing dates before they do away with them, I believe.

I threw $10 at it.

My dad gave me some scratchers for Christmas. Won $5, so I cashed them in on $5 worth on Mega Millions. If I win, I'll buy JJHuddle and close it.

I wouldn't give them $12, so I certainly wouldn't give them the cash it would take to buy the place.
