I will say they are a drain on the school systems down here at least. We have a big population of illegal immigrants in Alabama. The schools have to hire English as a second language teachers for children as young as kindergartners, people to translate, all the printing for school supplies etc. must be done in English and in Spanish, the costs really add up. It is unreal. When I was doing well checks on children in some of the schools in Blount and Cullman counties in Alabama (many of the kids were poor and had no access to health care) it was very hard to communicate with some of the students. They couldn't have a translator with each and every one of them so I went home and tried to learn some basic medical phrases and words in Spanish, it helped a little but I could only imagine the everyday frustration the school systems must feel dealing with the communication issues. Needless to say I am going to start taking a "Spanish for nurses" course next month.

There you go again Boat, trying to confuse people with facts again. When will you ever learn?

With all due respect, I'm sure being bi-lingual wasn't part of your job description, and it shouldn't be. If you're going to come to this country, know how to speak the language. We're expected to do it everywhere else that we as Americans go, so why not expect the same?

Sorry, I don't speak the language of most of the countries I've been to.

This is very stinging to many U.S. citizens most of whom are holding out for management positions because they can't imagine downsizing their lifestyle that they became accustomed to on debt.

I believe they are bad. As others have stated...they pay no taxes and send the bulk of their earnings to their home countries. The utilize our schools, roads, etc without helping pay for them.

My brother works in Tucson and his company employs many LEGAL immigrants and they, too send their money back home. Obviously there is no problem with that since they earn it and pay taxes...just an observation.

I had a few mexicans working for my concrete business in the past that were legal, at least I thought they were. I run my payroll through a leasing company that requires an ID which includes a SS# to prove that they are legal. When eveything checks out the leasing company confirms the identity and approves that they are legal and can start anytime. I have had two of them get minor injuries that did require medical attention and that's when the leasing company informs me that the SS# is no good and they have five day's to prove their identity.

Why is it that they were legal until it was time for workers comp to pay up?

Is it Pedro in the US and Juan in Mexico or what?

The next time you go to a Taco Bell take notice. Many employ Mexicans. You place an order and what do you hear? Spanish. Why can't they just speak engilsh while at work. It's hard telling what they are saying about you if you don't know their language. And then you ask for more sauce packets and they look at you as if you were from Mars.
