I am sure there are a lot of good places, but as far as chains....I like Ruth's Chris.

You can't go wrong with Ruth's Chris. Consistently good. Haven't been to any of the local chophouses.

I like Ruth's Chris also, but it's $35+ for the steak alone.

If you are looking for top dollar steakhouse and money isn't an option, then go to the Top in the whitehall/bexley area. I've heard it's unbelievable.

Ruth Chris, Top, Mitchell's, and Hyde Park. I'd go to one of those 4.

Definitely the Top, - as much for the atmosphere as anything else, and the total bill will a bit less. Hyde Park and Mitchell's aren't far behind.

Ruth's Chris isn't bad, but I've been consistently let down at Smith and Wollensky's here in Columbus - their places in the Pacific Northwest are much better.

Anyone been to Eddie Merlot's at Polaris?

Their flagship restaurant in NY is really good - I've heard mixed reports about their other locations. One can expect to pay premium prices. As sonofanup pointed out, at these places $35-$50 just for the steak is typical. I can buy really good beef for a fraction of that amount and grill it....now seafood on the other hand, I'm a culinary doofus.

I never order steak when I am out, always fish for this reason. Of course I get my steaks from a local farmer and the beef is exceptional.

Smith and Wollensky's got caught using well drinks and trying to pass it off as grey goose (put the well into a goose bottle) in columbus a couple years back. I had friends who worked there as servers and they said the manager ordered the bartenders to do it then fired the bar staff when the place got caught. They were turned in by the suppliers who noticed they were ordering lots of well drinks and no top shelf for the place.

If you want the best steak/food in columbus.... Go out to eat during restaurant week. You get great food for discounted prices and goes to help some charities.

My wife and in go to at least 1 restaurant during this week, melting pot at easton last year and ruth chris the year before.
