If they're going to sell all their stuff that means so much to players past, present and future then they have zero respect for being in Columbus. I don't care if they don't play in the Sugar bowl.

This would be my take on it if I was an OSU fan.

I'll add to that, what a colossal disappointment Pryor's collegiate career is going to end up being. A ton of talent, some great plays, a very good win-loss record but no Heisman (not even an invite), no national title, several questionable statements and actions which embarrassed not only him but his university/team after all of that insane hype that he himself fueled at times. And some on here think that he'll get drafted somewhere between rounds 5-7 if at all. SMH.

I think OSU deserved better.

I'd agree with that. It's an ugly pitfall that can come from signing those super-elite high schoolers — getting a guy completely in love with himself despite not having proved anything at a level above high school. All I heard coming into this season was how Terrelle had gotten more mature on and off the field and was showing signs of being a good leader who would build off last year's Rose Bowl victory and be a star leading an elite team. All I saw this year was the same maddeningly inconsistent player I saw the previous season. A guy who'd make amazing plays one drive and then throw a mind-bogglingly stupid interception. Honestly, I'll be glad to see him go. He was just a player who elicited wildly different reactions because his ability is top of the line, but his ability to execute is mediocre. My friends and I would be hanging out and watching the game and getting into verbal wars over whether he's elite or a total fuck-up. And you really couldn't disagree completely with either side because he'd usually show signs of being both during the course of every single game he played.

5 games of their senior year is punishment enough. Essentially, it will account for their entire senior season if they declare for the draft. Thats a huge penalty to pay for selling some swag in 2009.

As a Buckeye fan, I want them to put this behind them and go out and get a win. Thats the best way to make it up to the fans.

ewok--couldn't have said it better myself...my wish now is that he declares for the draft so we can move into the Miller era--let's close this chapter, the sooner the better.

However the NCAA chose not to enforce the rules for whatever reason. Now these guys guys hawk some uniforms and memorabilia and get 5 games? Something isn't right there.

One difference with the Newton thing is that while his dad tried to pull some really shady shit (a violation nonetheless), no money ever changed hands (that we know of).

The NFL is pretty much guaranteed to lock out, so I actually think they all stay.

Didn't see the press conference, but how was OSU not explicit Gene? Who was the incompetent compliance officer? This is one of the first things you tell athletes. John Wall or Jared Sullinger can't hawk their practice jerseys on e-bay, despite their value to potential buyers.

You've never heard that term? Gifts, awards and perks for being a student-athlete. You can't sell them while you're still an amateur. Thus gym bags, title rings, work out clothing, etc....can't sell them.

C'mon scUMmers, Shamrock Shaggers and Gatorbaters...bend us all over and ravage us with blunt instruments. I would do it to you and expect the same.

Everyone kept saying...how surprised we all were TP hadn't turned out to be a complete POS once he got to campus...well guess what... the SOB turned out to be exactly what we all probably thought he was. An idiot, a liar, a thief and lousy teammate. The biggest loser in all this is Tress. I know he feels like he was gut shot.

This makes it all more important that Braxton Miller will hopefully be enrolling early. Hopefully Tressel just gives him the reigns right off the bat, though with Tressel being loyal to older players that may not be the case. The precedent though is that as a true freshman Pryor took over after USC and he probably would have been the starter right off the bat had Boeckman not had a full year as starter and played in the Championship game.

The NCAA is one hypocritical organization. If these players violated rules which make them ineligible for 5 games next year, why are they permitted to play in the bowl game?

Maybe... but I really doubt Soloman Thomas or Pryor were leaving. Pryor would have been incredibly stupid to do so.

Its all about the $$$$. Ironically, the players were suspended for trying to get a little extra $$$. The NCAA lets them play in Sugar Bowl so they (NCAA) can make more $$$

Yeah. First round money tends to not go to athletes who are really raw at their current position and likely will be used as a wildcat tight end or something.

I heard that the tattoo parlor was being investigated for something unrelated, and that signed jerseys and memorabilia were found in the back room--pretty shady, ain't it?

They mentioned that during the Las Vegas Bowl... I would assume if that had anything to do with it, something turned up in an audit.
