Took Latin and French in college...Latin was a requirement for my major, and French because i thought it might be good to know.

Currently learning Maori as a requirement for my current job, really enjoying it!

Took French from kindergarded through 12th grade. I was fluent when I graduated and was in France for a month in 1998 (when I was 12, currently 24). I wouldnt say I am fluent anymore, but pretty close. I could easily go back to France and live and would probably be fluent again within weeks.

I know a good deal of Spanish from traveling there 2 times. I also spent 3 months in Tuscany, so I had my cousin (spent a year abroad) teach me some Italian. I can get by in Italy, but have to ask for stuff to be repeated a lot. Learning a language goes about 50x quicker when your in the country. Its amazing.

So, basically, Id say 2. French and English with a good knowledge of Italian and base knowledge of Spanish (and in turn Portuguese/Catalan).

No. I was fluent as a 10th grader and was still fluent when I graduated. It took me 11 years lol.

Lets not act like you learn anything before 6th grade anyway....Those years were spent more on the country history and culture etc. Not so much the grammar and sentence structure of the language. Plus, I didnt ever apply myself in school. I became fluent in spite of my efforts to not learn the language or do any of the work. I wish I had taken Spanish, it is a much more practical language to learn, but when the option to switch from French to Spanish was presented to us in 7th grade I stayed with French cause of the base knowledge and not wanted to re-learn basics of another language.

My school had everyone in French until 7th grade when we could then pick what language we wanted to study between French and Spanish.

I can speak about 5 languages, 3 of which I say I can speak very well. I have to travel and interact with people from other countries quite frequently for my job, so knowing other languages is crucial.
