It will be terrible without him.

I would bet he was the reason 99% of the people tuned into the show to begin with.

I would be shocked if it goes more than this upcoming season.

Most of the people I know only watch the first couple weeks of the show and they said he is the only reason they tuned in for that.

I think I've watched 3 episodes since it started. Two were during the season Daughtery was in, and the other was the finale with Crystal Bowersox. However, I will watch a little bit because of Jennifer Lopez. I really don't think Simon was the reason people tuned in. I really do think that they will almost come out even with people that will want to watch because of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

This is my feeling's. I think Simon made the show. Without him, they will be lucky to make it past this next season.

Starts Wednesday. I'm definitely interested to see how long this show holds up without Simon.

Simon makes the early shows, for sure. He also makes the shows much more enjoyable until the talent actually starts to rise to the top. If you think about all those 2 hour shows to start the year with some pretty mediocre talent it will be painful to watch. It's a pretty bland show if judges always have the kid gloves on. And there's something about the Simon and Piers where they just have the tone (don't know if it's the smug British accent or what) and wit that fits to be the tough critic. Ellen tried to do that at times and failed miserably.

I agree X Factor will probably bring it to an end, if X Factor goes head-to-head, which it might not. But I think they did well for themselves getting Steven Tyler and J-Lo. Should have replaced Randy, too - dude has added nothing to the show for years.

I told myself when they announced Simon was leaving that I would never watch it again. But TV is such shit right now, so I'll give it a chance. I liked Kara too, so this is going to be different.

Is "The X-Factor" Simon's new show? When does that come out?

I think AI will be fine. You can't go from #1 for 9 years straight to being canceled a season later.

People "say" they only watched it earl on for the rejects and such....
...but ratings tend to tell a different story.

From what I read it is more than just him being gone...there are more changes to the show actually.
How long witll it last....I would say at least 3-4 more years. The show is by far their biggest and even if it drops big time they still will have better ratings than anthing else they have.

it'll be interesting to see who the "bad cop" is going to be, who's the one to be candid and not afraid to hurt someone's feelings

The only hope for AI to more than a few years, I think, is to re-think what they are trying to do. Last year they advanced a couple of non-mainstream singers and what's-her-name made it all the way to runner-up. You gotta figure after 9 years the talent is getting a little thin, and it's looked that way some years. They'd do well to get away from the pretty faces and the pop voices and put some real original talents through. The kid that won America's Got Talent was fantastic and he never would have made it past first auditions.

It'll go in a new direction for sure...and that will determine whether the show survives or not. No doubt about the ability to produce new talent, as the charts are full of AI alumni.

they are allowing 15 yr olds this year as well. Read some of the changes in the paper the other day.......def a shakeup of how they do things a little bit.

It'll get one more year after this one because this year ratings will be inflated do to people giving it a chance.

I would guess Randy does most of the "bad cop" stuff. He has been heading in that direction in the last couple seasons.

I've read that Jennifer Lopez was settling in to be the mean voice.

Simon will be a huge void.

I think the show will survive but it won't be the the phenomenon it once was.

See, that will only hurt things. Most of the 15yr olds they've had on don't have close to having a mature enough voice to be a real competitor. I understand it's all about a cross-section to generate max ratings, but I think if the show is to succeed without Simon the focus needs to be more on talent and the ratings will follow.

Mmmmmm....That could work :)
