I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Ty Willingham will get a look to replace Friedgen. This makes me LOL. He is likely only interested if a membership to nearby Congressional Country Club is included in his contract. No reason to spend any time on recruiting if you can golf 36 holes everyday.

Mike Locksley was listed as a candidate too. If you can go 2-22 at New Mexico I'm not sure who wouldn't want you.

Ralph was jobbed. He served his alma mater well. Lotz, that was a low blow!! Willingham was a good coach and deserves his chance again.


BTW, Justin hasnt replied or given me what I am owed. Ill prolly be an ass until he does. Just so you know!!

I have family in maryland and they said all the terps fans are happy about this. They said friedgen did well at maryland but everyone has had their fill of his "1000 page offensive playbook".

Pretty shocked that Maryland would fire the fridge and equally shocked that Leach would go there. Definitely a step down from Tech

I really kind of think that Friedgen has gotten the run around from that administration and a raw deal. He was pretty successful at a school that was never really a football powerhouse to begin with ( I believe a BCS appearance or two was in order), and is an alum of the university

I pretty much agree. My friend said the same thing when we were talking about this. I guess I just don't really think what he did at Tech was all that bad. He made a mistake but he should not have been fired. I'm guessing I would have probably wanted to bring that Adam James kid down too. He seemed like a douche.

It's not really a step down from Tech when you were already asked to step down from Tech. I'm pretty sure it's a step up from not being a head coach.

I wouldn't retire either, make them pay the buyout lol.

Also, fabio, was his playbook that extreme? Maryland never seemed to do anything special under him.

I went to Maryland for grad school, and still live in the area. I'm a Terp fan and really hope to bring in Leach.

1. I hope the Fridge retires or takes the buy out. The previous AD made the deal for the extension and the previous assistant coach to become the head coach in 2011. Now, that the assistant coach, and most of the staff is heading to Vandy, Fridge needs to go.
2. The Fridge brought Maryland far, but not far enough. Other than the Orange Bowl and a solid year this year, he has done nothing. He was 2-10 last year with an alright team. Plus, attendance has dramatically dropped over the past few years, which lead Maryland to fall to the 8th place in the ACC bowl lineup even though they finished 3rd in the ACC. Add in the Fridge is not popular, especially with the alumni.
3. Mike Leach would be awesome. He has the Under Armour ties, which is based near and started at Maryland. He has also excited the alumni base, which is key for attendance. He is also a pretty great coach and offense would be a great fit for Maryland who has a pretty good freshmen QB and solid RBs.
4. Maryland would be a lateral move for Leach. Maryland has a rich history in football, and overall is a a top 30 football program. Also, Leach would be in a great market (DC) and have access to a solid recruiting area (Maryland, Penn, Va). He would also move into the ACC, a BCS conference, and have a shot to win. He can also lead to rebuilding the program.

I hope this can happen as a Maryland fan. It would be awesome. I was a buddy's house last night, who I went to Maryland with, and we both were getting excited about Leach.

I'd also add, it would make the ND-Maryland matchup next year that much more interesting.

I'm not sure if it was literally 1000 pages, but from what I heard, it was pretty thick- it was ridiculous even for pro team standards.

Well, Fridge is out. Maryland will buy out the last year.
AD says it was when the assistant left for Vandy, he decided to let him go. That was the decision that forced him to let him go.
