Lochte snapped swimming's world record drought Thursday, setting the first individual mark since high-tech bodysuits were outlawed at the start of the year.
Two other Americans also came away with golds. Natalie Coughlin held off two Chinese challengers to win the 100 backstroke in a meet record 56.08 seconds and Rebecca Soni beat Leiston Pickett of Australia by 0.01 seconds in the 50 breaststroke.

I think seeing records broken is going to be few and far between now that the LZR and others have been banned. Not only were some of the best swimmers ever competing (Phelps, Lochte), but they had the best technology as well. Every time they jumped in the pool a record seemed to fall. Unless they change technology or rules again, I think some of the records may never be beaten. I'm glad they did away with the suits because I think it was also giving some swimmers that just aren't as good a chance to compete with the likes of Phelps and Lochte.

That was happening on all levels of swimming... not just international. Those suits were just too good. I'm glad they got rid of those suits.

Well recently it seems that way with the advances in suit tech. In fact, I think every record in every event was broken with the new suits. Except for maybe the long distance one by that Australian guy, Hackett I think. Now that the new suits are banned I think it's not too bold to say that some of the current records may never be touched again.

There haven't really been any changes in track and field over the last 20 years. You have to wait for a freak like Michael Johnson or Bolt to come around and break them. And you only get someone like that every 20 years or longer.
