Hell yea why not put on a pair of running shoes and take a lap around the mall before paying for them or open a pack of diapers and change your kid right then, or put clothes on and wear them out of the store. WTF its a grocery store not a restaurant, its not yours until you pay for it. There is a reason they dont put tables in the middle of the isles

Some good points, the more I read the posts above it appears it is inappropriate to consume something before you pay for it. At least with running shoes you can return them. No one is regurgitating the food they consume. What would happen if a person with children is consuming (or their children is consuming) the store's food and something happens that requires them to leave the store quickly? Is the grocery store just SOL in that situation.

Do this in the Electronics department and catch a football game while you're at it.

The more I think about it, the more I am against the idea of eating what you haven't paid for. It does seem to be a bit "Hillbilly" or "Ghetto".

Okay, so this topic cracked me up a few minutes ago when I went to my local grocery store (southeastern ohio). I don't normally do the shopping when I'm home and I admit, I had a moment where I thought to myself, "THAT is who they were talking about on that thread."

Who would you imagine, let alone observe, grazing on food in the store, "people of Wal-Mart" or a well dressed individual just out of the office?

Have some self restraint and avoid the stereotype.
I had a shirt and tie on last week when I started chowing down on some french bread in the store so...

There is no way I would do this because, besides looking like a slob, you would have to think how much of the pain in the ass it would be for the store. You know there is/would be people that 1) dont pay for their shit 2) make a mess that would have to be cleaned up 3) cluster up the isles because they have to stop in the middle to snap into a slim jim

Definitely slob like behavior. especially when you go through the store and see opened boxes people left behind. show some damn self restraint for a few minutes until you out of the store.

I just don't care for this as an argument. It isn't stealing until you leave without paying for it....and then you've entered a whole new situation. There are a lot of products/services for which you don't pay until after it is provided. It may be silly, but it isn't a crime at that point.

Ok how about the food is sealed for a reason if you were suppose to eat it right then it would be called a buffet line. Hell even in alot of restaurants you pay before you eat. It's just sloppy and rediculous that a person cant wait 5 min to get out to the car or even pay for the food first, It's not like you just got back from a month at sea or lost in the woods sure you might have had along day at work but not that long.

I agree with this and what Con Alma and Buckeye Chick said as well.

Extremely unsanitary, bad manners, and just plain disgusting. I see slobs do this from time to time. Have some flipping decency people.

#1. You should wash all fruits and veggies off before eating them. Do you enjoy the taste of pesticides or perhaps microscopic larve?
#2. Eating in front of other people as they are about to walk up and grab the same item you just picked from and standing there eating it? GROSS.
#3. Do you not have enough patience to wait until you are at least out of the store, if not at home, to begin eating your groceries? How disgusting.
#4. Pushing carts, or carrying baskets... do you not realize how many germs are on them and how many people before you that day touched them?

It's no wonder diseases and sickness get around so fast.

When I worked at giant eagle back in hs and college I used to see parents give their kids bananas all the time. I always wondered what the hell they were thinking cause you pay per pound not per banana, and to me it's considering stealing. Some people just lack common sense.

I won't open food and eat it in the store, but I have no problem with picking up a bottle of pop from the cooler and drink it while in the store and pay for it when checking out.

That happened often when I worked at a truck stop in the summers - although it was mostly gatorade with some pepsi or mountain dew thrown in. Never had a problem with it, no different than getting a slurpee at 7-11 and slurping while in line. Seems a lot different to open up a potato chip or cracker bag.

That's basically how I view it. There's no reason you can't just wait until you get home.
