I just had one of the shittiest Mondays of all time. I've been having lingering wrist pain after a fall about 3 months ago. I just thought it was a bad sprain.

I never bothered to get it looked at because I assumed it would just go away. So today I find out I ruptured my SL ligament in my left wrist and I'm getting surgery TOMORROW. It sucks because I just started job in October and I will miss a few days....also in a cast for 2 months and won't get my strength/grip back after 4-6 months.

On a positive note, the guy performing the surgery is one of the best in NYC and the world at what he does. He's performed the exact operation on tons of athletes.....Richard Jefferson, Allen Houston, Mewelde Moore and MUTOMBO to name a few.

Anyone have this done? Should I be expecting Percs or Vics?

I've been having lingering wrist pain after cranking one out for 3 months

Not sure anyone has ever dealt with this but check with Gibby/blanket.

I'm a PT and never heard of this till u brought it up, but I figured that the SL stood for Schapholunate Ligament so here is some info I found on it if you are interested.

Sounds like there may be a follow up surgery 8-10 weeks out to remove wires then start Occupational Therapy. Good luck!

You are correct, the wires come out in 8 weeks. It wasn't too bad, I'm just glad its over with. I have bad throbbing in my arm wrist right now, but the doc said that will lessen by the weekend. Can you give me some insight on the therapy? How long til I can get back to the gym and regain full strength?

It seems to me shit like this happens to people who are full of themselves. You are just another person who is a part of that club now. But hey keep posting threads about your life, because we all really give a fuck /sarcasm. Did you flush the toilet from the shit you took a few days ago, or do you still enjoy smelling it?

You will probably follow up with an Occupational Therapist (I am a physical therapist) as they primarily deal with the hand, wrist and fine motor activities. But I would say if you are immobilized for 10-12 weeks be prepared for your forearm muscles on that side to look like toothpicks due to the inactivity. Hopefully this is in your non-dominate hand.
As far as time frame, I would say that for every day of immobility, you are looking at a minimum 2-4 days of strengthening and range of motion to regain the strength and motion you had before. Therefore, if you are immobilized for 3 months, expect weakness in the wrist and forearm up to 9-12 months post surgery. Just make sure to follow your post op protocol regarding the immobility and activity as you have to allow the ligament to heal properly. These bones need to stay right next to each other in order for your wrist to function properly. Bench pressing will probably be out of the question for a while, but your surgeon will guide you as to when you can return to specific activities. Glad to hear it went well.

Damn I figured it would be quite a while to become full strength., but not that long. I can start with cardio afte the hard cast comes off so that is a plus.
