I'm not big into the whole "player returns to face his former team" angle.
I get sick of that but I guess it is pretty significant this week since Holmes made one of the most important plays in Steelers franchise history.
Mike Wallace has emerged as the No. 1 receiver and I think the Steelers are pleased with their two rookies, Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown.
Also, Holmes would've been an unrestricted free agent after this season so he would've only been with the team for this season. And he was scheduled to miss the first four games.
But even with all that I think the Steelers would be better off this season with Holmes. They kind of overreacted at the time and wanted to get him off the team but now that it's this time of year nobody really cares about the offseason problems and suspension. I think the Steelers would've been a better offense and better team with Holmes for a possible playoff/Super Bowl run.
They did pick up Bryant McFadden in a trade with that draft pick and maybe his presence rather than having William Gay start all season has been a difference in winning a few more games. Hard to say.
