Article on CNN today about increasing number of incidents involving arguments over people putting their seat back.

I think that you have the right to put your seat back and you dont have to put it up if you dont want, but you should be polite about it. Especially if it is a daytime flight or the person behind you is tall.

I think you should be able to put your seat back no matter what the situation....It's not like it's a lazy boy that kicks back 3 feet, it only goes back a couple inches, and the person behind you has the same right to put their seat back to compensate for the lost few inches from the person in front of them.

Too tall/fat that the reclining seat in front of you makes you angry? Don't fly, or spring for a first class ticket so that you are comfortable...Otherwise stfu.

The person in front of me gets to put the seat back anwhere from all the way to a few inches (I block it with my legs shortly after takeoff) depending on how much legroom I have on the particular plane.

It pisses me off, especially when you have the tray table down and your drink on it then all the sudden the seat drops down into your lap!

Too much of a slob to sit upright for a couple of hours without having to cry about it? Don't fly or stfu.

Just be courteous on both rows. There shouldn't be anything wrong with reclining to the full extent (if it causes a problem in that position that is the airlines' fault), but there is no need to jerk it quickly or have it fully reclined during service times. Likewise, for God's sake if you get up to go the restroom, if you must grab the seat in front of you to maintain your balance be aware of the passenger's head/hair. Had a woman nearly slice my jugular with her nails scraping me. Come on MAN!

This. It's fine to recline, but be reasonable and courteous about it.

When people freak out about small things like others not being very considerate in compact environments like an airplane I think I am getting a small glimpse into what must be a life full of frustration for them.

There's a fair distance between "freaking out" and insisting on being treated with some level of civility.

Indeed there is. I might suggest the point of arguing is beyond such a fair distance.

I would agree, and let the flying waitress do her job instead.

It's a right, but I agree with others that you can be courteous about it.

Pisses me off when people recline their chairs fully in airplanes. There is hardly any leg room as it is, now you are going to cut into my "space" by reclining your chair? Come on man. At least ask.

All of the seats recline therefor all of the passangers can recline if they'd like. As others have mentioned...be courteous and considerate and there should be no problems.

haven't run into issues with this.... got smacked by a woman's fat rolls cuz she couldn't make it up the aisle to the bathroom, which was a frightening experience, but not w/ reclining

I only get mad when I am using the tray table already and have a drink or like my laptop out. When I flew to Ohio last month on the flight back there was a couple in their about 70's in front of us. We are about an hour into a 2 1/2 hour flight, got my laptop watching a movie and a drink on it when the old woman drops her seat back right on the top of my open computer, lucky I was able to grab the drink by it pushed my computer screen down. I wasn't happy but because they were so old I didn't say anything I just sat there and took a few deep breaths!

Why would you have a drink sitting beside a laptop in the first place? Especially on a plane. That isn't very smart.

You're an idiot and know you are! Because they were both on the table, my hand close to the drink as you can read I was able to secure my drink! I also didn't realize you shouldn't do that society since it is big enough for both and there is also an indentation on the table for the drink!

It's not smart to have an open drink by a laptop.

I don't have a problem with it.

I do have a problem with people knocking, kicking, hitting, or whatever to the back of my seat.
