He'll always be a legend. Sad to see he has to go out this way though...

I use to love seeing Florida State on top of the college football world. For now on, I will root against them. It's a shame they tried to force him to leave. Great career bobby!

You could see it coming.

Something makes me think though that Jimbo Fisher has been in charge for the better part of a couple of years right now, and they've really gone nowhere. How long before they're firing him and hiring somebody else?

Not sure Fisher is the right man for the job, like Darby said he's probably been in charge for a few years now. Hate to see Bowden go out like this, but such is life.

Bad way to go out. How does Jimbo Fisher turn things around?

Florida State threw Bowden under the bus and after everything that man has done for that university and football program. Ungrateful bastards

There is going to be a lot of teams with new coaches next year.

I really thought Bobby wouldve been able to go out on his own terms though

He had some big time teams even with all the questions about the way he went about things.

He should have been able to. I think the coach in waiting decision but the final nail in that coffin.

Actually think he should have before this. Should have went out on a higher note than this. Had an amazing career and is a legend but now will also be remembered for hanging on to long to try to get the record. The teams lately have not been very good and haven't showed any signs of improving. I am not saying he should have been forced out but he shouldn't of tried to hold on so long.

I felt that it was kind of shitty. I think with everything he has done for FSU and the program he would have been able to go when he wanted. I thought it was kind of a slap in the face to be able to come back "with limited responsibilities."
Good for Bobby to say FU..and leave with a little bit of dignity.

Like others have said..I hope FSU lands flat on their face now and is searching for a new coach within the next 5 years.

I had never been a Bobby Bowden fan, but Florida State really dicked him over by doing this.

I'm just glad Jimbo Fisher is contractually bound to taking the job, otherwise it'd have been a better job than Notre Dame.

I don't have a problem with the way FSU has handled everything. Bobby has been the face of FSU, but we all know, no one man or player is better than the institution. Truth is, FSU has been a joke for the past couple years. If this were anybody else the past 5 years, they would have been fired. It's a tough situation. But at the end of the day, if a legend can't produce, maybe he has to look in the mirror. Bobby hasn't had it for awhile and tried to hang on. He built this program up and has been bringing it down for awhile now. It's a tough call, but what do you do when a legend can't produce but won't walk away?

As for Jimbo.. he will NOT be the answer. He has most definitely helped this team decline. If I were FSU, I'd be going after a proven coach, no matter what his contract says.

Sad day at FSU, I would have liked to see him coach one more year. Sounds like he was forced out, not good for a guy that has done a lot for FSU. JMO

You would have liked to see him take another run at something great, but you can't blame him for leaving I guess before they actually dropped the hammer and let him go.

I have followed the FSU football program closely over the last decade and a half. The program that Bobby Bowden built performed at a high level for a very long period of time. Fourteen straight years of Top 5 finishes is absolutely amazing! Recently, the program has begun to struggle and I don't think it's a coincidence that this decline has occurred as Bowden's role with the team was decreased.

After what he has done for the university and its football program, he should have been able to leave on his own terms. In recent weeks, he said that he would like to coach one last season, but the administration at FSU isn't going to allow that. It's really a shame that it has to end like this. I understand that the program's success is the primary concern, and things were not going well lately, but Bowden should not have been disrespected in this manner. Bobby Bowden made that program into a national powerhouse and I feel like he deserves better than this.

Penn State didn't force Paterno out when he was struggling a few years ago and things have turned around. PSU showed JoePa the loyalty that he deserved. I only wish that FSU would have followed suit.

Bobby Bowden hung on way toooo long. To me it seemed like his real worry was the record towards the end. I remember that Florida State got in trouble recently with the NCAA and he was petitioning to keep his wins. C'mon Bobby, there are more important things than the wins. The school has really fallen off the map, and others are right when they say anybody else would have been fired years ago. FSU is danger of being passed up by USF. That should not happen

Exactly. Had Bowden left about 8 years ago, he wouldn't have soiled his legacy as much as he has. He'll still go out a legend, but the end of his career was garbage.

Should have retired after the 99 title. What a way to go out.

Bowden stayed too long. Pass time to retire. However, with "Jimbo" coming in, it won't be long before the NCAA is investigating FSU. You heard it here first.

Uhhh. The Florida State has already been punished a few times by the NCAA in the last couple years. You can't really call something that has already happened.
