I'm thinking of doing this for my wife for Christmas. We just bought a new sectional and she wants a nice square one. I did a google search but didn't find a whole lot I liked. Does anyone have any experience doing this or know of a place with some good plans?

my cousin builds custom furniture with high quality wood. He is in NJ so you would have to pay shipping though.

I am sure you can find a set of plans online.

Two suggestions if you do end of making one.

1. Keep things square. Check every piece and every assembly for squareness. You can't get it back in square if one piece is out and you have it assembled.

2. Sand, sand, sand with fine and very fine grit paper.

Bonus tip: If you use wood glue clean up and runs or drips with water immediately. Your stain and finish won't penetrate the wood glue and show as spots.

1. He's a steeler fan. I couldn't trust him to do good work. :)

2. I'm looking for some brownie points by building it myself.

I am a Steelers fan yes, and a professional carpenter. I wouldn't steer you wrong regardless of your sub-par NFL fanhood.

Nawwww.....If Jesus had been a good carpenter he wouldn't have been so poor :) I mean, 2000 pages or whatever in the Bible and not one fucking story about what a fine coffee table he crafted out of some driftwood found on the beach. "Hey, Jesus, we appreciate all the food but how 'bout making us a chair so we can sit down?"

Word. I've been assembling hundreds of beer caps, each one unique, to place under a laminate or whatever on a bar top. It's going to be legitimate as freak. I'm not a big fan of the Bud Light, so since i got to college I started drinking different beers each weekend instead of natty and so I found myself with ~250 different caps and thought this would be a good use. I figure I'll finish around 25-27, right in time to get hitched and buy a house. :D It'll be a pretty neat homage to my college years and rather classy since it's not some Natty Light-filled pong table so many bros have in college.

Get a Kreg jig tool and you will make a nice table. I made a nice tv stand last year, its a great tool for woodworking. http://www.kregtool.com/

My coffee table in one room is a new Goodyear racing tire with a 30" round piece of tempered glass over it. For the rim I used a moon disc. I put all kinds of racing pictures under the glass, and I can change them around when I want.

I have a collection similar to that I guess, not of beer caps but more along the lines of different sports related art/photography to go on the walls. I want to have enough to cover the walls of a home office plus the mancave

Here is mine! Turned out pretty well, used Bud, Bud Light and Coors Light caps and real Buckeye Leaves. Legs also raise up so you can play beer pong on it.

Sloop, to put that much work into it (and my dad carpentered for 40+ years) instead of just going to Sugarcreek I think you are looking for more than brownie points. And I hope you get it. Post another pic after staining, so far, so good.

Memories of my dad and I crafting a changing table for our kids (now 22 y/o) are fond. He would say I'd like to have a running total of how many diapers are actually changed on this. There were some, but now it holds towels. Still looks good and is functional for something. BTW, he was 99% of the crafting, I was the holder, gopher, stainer and he was the "skill, ability, and technical know how".

Here is the finished product. I regret how I made the legs but other than that I'm happy with it.
