How do you get to be Speaker of the House? Do you get there by being an idiot?ptown_trojans_1;580059 wrote:Also, Biden was chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. You do get to that chair by being an idiot. You get there by knowing foreign policy issues.

All this demonstrates is that Biden has more experience, not that he's any smarter.ptown_trojans_1;580059 wrote:It was mainly due to Biden has a longer history and track record on foreign policy issues than does Palin. Biden, while I disagreed on some issues with him articulated a rather deep solution to the Iraq civil war in 2007 (break up the country in 3 pieces) Now, it was unwise and COIN and the surge were better options, but was not some broad idea. It had a rational for it.

And the GOP isn't much better, I don't have NYT all access so can't post the whole article - but here is a snippet.

Danforth sounds like a fool in the byte, just because someone holds a Senate position doesn't mean they are entitled to it. There is a reason why we have elections. Or so most of us thought.

The hypocrisy of this thread is hilarious. A guy who would polish the shoes of the president with his tongue, if asked, is criticizing an off-the-cuff mistake by Palin.
Palin doesn't use tens of thousands of dollars in teleprompters to make her speeches, yet she arguably makes less mistakes while speaking than Obama does.
Less we forget the "I've been to all 57 states" comment.
Or his comment about the "Austrian language".
Or his remarks about the Special Olympics and his bowling aptitude.
If you'd like a bunch more, all well documented and many from the campaign trail...check out Michelle Malin's column on this subject. Yes, I know it's Malkin, but she very methodically documents the gaffes, so the source isn't an issue here. If you can prove she got the facts wrong, then we'll talk.

Even if BHO did not use the teleprompters to reduce his public "gaffe-ability", the media would ignore it and continue to scrutinize and publicize the gaffes of conservatives like Palin. After all the public should be made aware of how ignorant conservatives are to avoid the mistake of voting for them in the next election. Gaffes by liberals? Just honest mistakes made by caring human beings. Nothing to get excited about.
It's the way of things.

And, I'm still not convinced Palin is an idiot. I get that she's "unlikable" to many people, but that doesn't equate to being an idiot.
IMHO, here's an example of being an idiot or idiotic:
Calderon disparages America/Americans on the floor of our government, and the democrats give him a standing ovation and President Obama doesn't give a rebuttal of any sort.
Or how about when a President of The United States of America taunts and mocks Americans because he's smarmy and cocky because his favored legislation passes.
Or a Presidential nominee's wife states that she's only proud to be an American because her husband is in contention for the Presidency.
I don't think ANYBODY should be calling Palin an idiot...

I agree. I'm fascinated with the left's magnificent obsession with Palin. If Palin spewed all the leftist talking points but still claimed to be Republican, the media and ultra-liberal groups like NOW would still not like her simply because she claims to be Republican.CenterBHSFan;580644 wrote:And, I'm still not convinced Palin is an idiot. Like Palin or not she's a very formidable American political figure at the moment. You would think that NOW, for example, would be encouraging her not lambasting her at every opportunity. These groups hate her because Palin does not fit the script liberals have set down for all "oppressed" women. The bottom-line is Palin IS intelligent and that worries the left.
Palin will NOT get the Republican nomination simply because there's too much hate on the left for her to be electable. I would say the liberal media has been successful in that regard.

I dislike Sarah Palin about as much as anyone on here but this is not a reason to dislike her or to dislike her more. She misspoke. We all do it.
The problem with Palin for most all people is certainly not that she isn't somehow an "oppressed" woman. It's that most that dislike her disagree greatly with her politics and viewpoints. Simple as that.
I assume most of you guys on here that dislike Obama do so because you disagree with his views, not because he's black or something like that.

This."Can somebody, anybody, explain to me exactly WHY Sarah Palin is an idiot? "
Because she's a woman, and the Democrats have a gender issue, a major gender issue with women that don't fall into the groupthink line.
I spent thanksgiving with my brother in law who flew into a near hysterical diatribe against Sarah Palin, when the after dinner conversation turned to Dancing with the Stars and Bristol Palin. All of it the usual liberal mud that has been slung in her direction ever since she got the VP nomination.
Condi Rice usually will get a similar reaction, although that's lessened a bit now that she is not so much a threat.
Dems just can't stand women that have succeeded without their help.
The very thought is usually enough to make their voice raise 2 octaves.

I know that descriptions gets thrown at her all the time, but what is she so idiotic at, in particular? If we were going to do some comparisons (as far as misspeaking), then our President/Vice President are both in big time trouble.
1.She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was
2.She couldn't tell Katie Couric what newspapers she read
If she is serious about becoming a real force in politics, she needs to give Ed Rollins a call,he may be the best Republican stratagist out there

The teleprompters, verbal gaffes, and points written in pen on their palms shouldn't be a big deal for either Obama or Palin.
I'm sick of people getting their panties in a wad over nothing. Dislike Palin because you have a basic disagreement with her foreign policy views or dislike Obama because you think that he hasn't lived up to his promises/didn't want his promises. But this little shit has got to stop. What does it help? If I say Palin is stupid because she can't name a newspaper everyone on this board will throw a fit because Palin was being unfairly questioned or something. That isn't my point though. My point is that even if Palin not being able to name a newspaper she reads was a measure of her intelligence/lack of intelligence (which it isn't) that I couldn't use it to showcase that because it isn't a real gripe.
Same shit with the 57 states and "my muslim faith" shit. Come up with a real damned argument instead of this crap.
I've done what I just ranted about too so don't bother going and looking up when I used petty shit in an argument.

1. I don't know if Bush had any set doctrine. If somebody could make heads or tails sense out of his Presidency and label something as a "doctrine", please share lol
Can YOU say what his "doctrine" was Gibby?
2. If somebody asked me on the fly what sort of things I read, it would probably catch me off guard also. Not because I don't know what I read, but probably because I read a variety of newspapers, books, magazines, etc. I would probably have to think about the first things I would say or wonder why they heck they want to know what I read and how it was relevant.
So, no, those might be "idiotic" issues to you, because you just don't like her, but think about it- is it really?
