He has won at FIU. Just because you haven't heard of him doesn't mean he isn't a good coach. If things don't pick up soon, they might be the next mid major Florida school to beat Miamistill hearing Gruden or Mullen. Why not Christobal ?
What has Christobal done? They want a big name hire, not someone from FIU

I highly doubt that.

So I realize he just won the Sun Belt and its great to win at whatever level you are. But a lot of coaches are inflated with a good season or two. I know FIU was winless before he got there, but he just now had a winning season (4th year) and it isn't by much (yes, I know where most of their losses come from too). Just saying, Greg Schiano was a god for turning Rutgers around but did he really turn them around or just have a decent season or two? It is always a crapshoot with guys that have early success or success at somewhere unexpected. I understand why he wouldn't be headlining a list for Miami at the moment.

Urban Meyer was at BGSU and Utah before landing the Florida gig.
Jim Tressel was at YSU before OSU.
Just a couple of examples.

Yeah, Meyer was the original BCS Buster. Tressel won multiple national titles. Thats a little more on the resume than going 6-5.
Dan Hawkins did pretty well at Boise and Tommy Bowden was amazing at Tulane (for two years). Neither of those really worked out.
There are no guarantees with anyone. I'm just saying that I understand why Miami might want someone that has a resume that would seem a little more proven/less risky, given their history and the fact that they kind of just got burned that type of mistake.

They hired Shannon, who was their defensive coordinator. Cristobal has actually been a head coach and he has won some games at FIU, which up until this year seemed to be pretty impossible.
That's not the point though, ytowngirl was mocking Cristobal. I just brought up the point, that just because she hasn't heard of FIU/Cristobal, doesn't mean he isn't a good coach.

I won't believe it until I see the press conference. These coaching searches are always so fluidwkfan;583080 wrote:Heard this morning that it will be Gruden....he and the AD were working out the final details late last night.

I agree with this. I think Turner Gill is another example of that. 1 winning season at Buffalo (still losing 6 games), and followed that up with 5-7 the next year. Somehow lands the Kansas job, and it looks like the Buffalo program actually wasn't established at all, as they're right back to 2-10 this season.

I wonder if Charles Barkley is still upset about Auburn passing on Gill?Mulva;583347 wrote:I agree with this. Miami needs a players' coach, as they say. Brad Childress is NOT that type of coach.

Randy Edsall, Al Golden and Marc Trestman are the 3 being considered for the job according to Miami Herald.

I keep hearing Edsall and Tuberville.
Edsall seems solid, although it isn't that sexy of a move...
I hope they hire Tuberville though. Sad how far this program has fallen. Hard to believe they have to settle for one of those types of guys.
On the other hand though, it would be funny if Tuberville left Texas Tech after one season. They had a good coach there for years who had them winning. They fire him over something petty and now it looks like they could be playing head coach roulette for the next several years

Rivals Dienhart tweeted yesterday that Tuberville wants the AD title at Texas Tech and may be using Miami as leverage.

Something tells me that after waht they went through with Leach that's not going to happen...
He might be the guy to go to The U. I didn't think that it was very probably after only being @ TTU for 1 year, but maybe it will happen

My thoughts exactly when I heard his name mentioned. Definitely pulling for him to leave for anywhere.

Settle for one of those types of guys? It's how it's always been at The U. They never brought in big names to coach. They just became big names afterwards.
