I agree with what was stated on the Penn State job, however, the campus is in the middle of nowhere and it just seems like Midwestern recruits are more often heading down south. Obviously Penn State is an attractive job, but I don't know if it's one of the top 10-15 jobs anymore.

It will be interesting to see what they do once Paterno is done. I really hope they don't settle on an assistant.

I think Penn State's job is more attractive than you think.

I think Miami will be a stepping stone for Golden. The stadium situation and fanbase really hurt Miami. They play far from campus and they cannot fill up Dolphins Stadium. Few care about sports in Miami until "their" team is in the Championship. And even then support is pretty spotty.

The Heat have had a hard time getting people interested haha.

State College is in the middle of nowhere, but if you have to be in the middle of nowhere that's the place to be. It is called Happy Valley for a reason.

Not only do I think PSU is a top 10 job, in this day and age I'd put it ahead of Michigan. I'd rather live in State College (in the middle of nowhere) than in Ann Arbor which is next to a city which is the posterchild of urban decline in a state that is the posterchild of American decline. Better local recruiting, rabid fanbase where football is THE sport. Academics trails a little to UM, but not by much. Students seem to enjoy going to school there, unlike most UM grads I know that love Wolverine sports but aren't so positive about their college experience.

Good perspective! Would be interesting if they both open up at the same time (could be possible next season).

As for the top 10 jobs in America, I'll take a shot at it (obviously it's a matter of opinion)
1. Texas
2. Alabama
3. Ohio State
4. Florida
5. USC
6. Oregon
7. Notre Dame (recent success would say otherwise, but they have the tradition and can recruit nationwide)
8. UCLA (have no idea why they can't find success)
9. Georgia

LSU, Michigan, Penn State, Florida State, Oklahoma and Nebraska would be in contention for the next spots

I've seen it pop up in a few threads but why is Georgia such an appealing job? I know its the SEC and Georgia has some solid prep football but other than that I can't wrap my head around it being a top job. In recruiting and polls early in the season they are always near the top but other than every couple years it doesn't translate to on the field success.

You said it yourself, great recruiting ground - that and excellent facilities. Problems are ridiculously high expectations, competition for recruits and a strong in-state rival. Athens is a cool college town but a lot of "urban" recruits will prefer to go to GT and be in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech is another school that I question why can't have more success. I would think that to be a great job. Good in state talent, good academics, pays well and you're in Atlanta.

They won a national championship back in the day. I think they will be respectable with Paul Johnson every single year he is there. However, I don't ever see him taking them to the next level
